We’re going to Oxford for weekend in September and want to go somewhere really nice to eat in the city centre or North Oxford.

The only issue is my DS (7) is a child of simple tastes food-wise, so it needs to be somewhere with nice food for us and DD (10) who all like “posh” food, but still somewhere that caters for children or has basic stuff too.

We are already going to The Trout one night, and would like somewhere nice for the second night - any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well I don’t know if it’s posh enough but Branca (Walton St) has a nice children’s menu. Otherwise Gees or Pierre Victoire both have things that would expect to work for younger fussier eaters.

Quod on high street is probably your best bet for what you have described

DoubleLottchen · 26/08/2018 20:17

My DC both love the children's menus in Loch Fyne and Brasserie Blanc. They are chains, but quite high end, so hopefully nice enough food for the adults.

Shoppingwithmother · 26/08/2018 20:22

Thanks to all - I’ll look at the menus!

Ooh all good suggestions. Hungry now!

greendale17 · 26/08/2018 20:24

I wouldn’t describe Loch Fyne as high end at all

Portabello or mama Mia are fairly nice summertown eateries. We adore the anchor on jerhico for lovely gastro food. Jacobs and field in wolvercote is currently far superior to the trout in terms of food quaility, however if you're not that fussed on the quality of the food and just looking for a stereotypical oxford Riverside setting then the trout will tick the right boxes for you I'm sure.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 26/08/2018 20:29

I second the preference for Jacob’s Inn over the Trout on food, but the setting of the Trout is lovely.

I love the Anchor too, especially their flat iron chicken and skinny fries. I could eat that for every meal!

TheChineseChicken · 27/08/2018 06:56

Yes, the Anchor is very nice. I also don't like the trout and would suggest either Jacobs inn or the perch instead

RhiWrites · 27/08/2018 07:14

The Rickety Press in Jericho
The Perch at Binsey
The Anchor, on Hayfield Road

All fancy but with options children should like.

Thank you!

Another one who doesn’t rate the food at the Trout and much prefers Jacobs Inn!
Sometimes I go for a drink at the Trout, then eat at Jacobs so have best of both Grin

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 27/08/2018 15:46

As PP said Jacobs Inn definitely. It's expensive but very good. Trout is much nicer setting though. I'd maybe have food at Jacobs then drinks at the Trout.

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 27/08/2018 15:52

Sorting what time you eat of course. Visit the Trout in daylight and go for a walk by Godstow Nunnery there's a lovely blue plaque type sign there.

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 27/08/2018 15:52

Sorting should be depending.

Why is this under AIBU for fffs!

I second Pierre Victoire (french), Brasserie Blanc is nice standard French food, Gee's may be perfect - lovely posh food but very accommodating (my friend's father is autistic and has a limited diet and they managed to make him something he loved), The Trout is a lovely setting but mediocre food wise (great walk there from Oxford City centre), Cherwell boat house is a possibility too. Probably not posh enough (maybe for lunch) but Manos is lovely Greek food.
Sojo is amazing - just go in and ask them to bring you food but probably not good for a fussy eater (I love it so much I just had to mention it),
