pinworms!

Sorry if this is a little gross or TMI for some...

DD2 is at her uncle's until Monday, and she's phoned yesterday to say she had sickness bug.

She then phoned me today to say she found pinworms in her underwear.

She has been biting her nails for 7 years and she's slowly starting to stop.

She's 13 and I know it's more common in younger children.

I don't know if she's caught them because she's staying with 4 children under the age of 10 who recently caught the sickness bug or it's because of her nails.

She's been crying because she thinks everyone is going to notice and make fun of her when it's back to school next week.

Should I go and collect her tomorrow? It's a 3 hour drive - I was just thinking if she'd be more comfortable at home.

Collect her and buy treatment.

Go and collect her, nothing worse than feeling ill and anxious when you're away from home.

Go and get her.

Threadworms are very very common. I did read that it could be up to 60% of people who have them, even long term, have no idea so it's possible it has nothing to do with staying will then I'll children. I noticed them in my toddler's nappy years ago and have been vigilant ever since.
The best way to check for them is (young children only obviously) to get a torch and check their bottoms in the middle of the night. If they have them, it's likely you'd see one wandering out to lay their eggs. Yuck.
Strip and hot wash bedding. Thoroughly Vacuum the mattresses and carpets and wash every bit of soft furnishing and toys you can belonging to every member of the household. Repeatedly. All the people who live in the house need separate towels for a while.
You need to pop to the chemist and treat every family member with the medicine. They're easy to get rid of but you want to keep the little buggers away and their eggs are everywhere.

She's told me she isn't sick anymore.

But how long can she go without treatment?

I'm thinking of getting her a day early.

What MilkybarGrownup said.

Plus, treat everyone now and again in two weeks. Maybe worth a third time.

She should be treated asap or she'll get reinfected and it's a risk for everyone she's living with.
It should be straightforward. Just go to the pharmacy and get it. It's just one pill.
