To think this is disgusting? (Food)

Today I went to my normal cafe to buy a bite to eat for lunch. I usually get a cold pasta it's creamy with chicken, peppers and sweet corn. It's usually in some sort of cold carbonara sauce, quite yummy.

Today I visited and sat down to eat, noticed the pasta looked a little bit different

They had used mayonnaise instead of the creamy sauce Hmm I mean lots of mayonnaise.... not just a dollop to make the pasta moist.

Aibu to think that that was absolutely disgusting and on no terms ever should you substitute white pasta sauce for mayonnaise? Had to leave it...

I'm wondering if you mean cold alfredo rather than carbonara though?

bruffin · 24/08/2018 22:56

Cild pasta in mayo is perfectly normal . Have a look a pasta lunch pots in any supermarket, the normally have mayo.

Grilledaubergines · 24/08/2018 22:58

Livid over a pasta sauce? Christ. Things must be bad 😂

Bimgy85 · 24/08/2018 23:01

@toomanychilder well that's whatever carbonara you're making. Depends on your taste really. Traditional , eggs, cheese... modern /processed , add cream.

BackforGood · 24/08/2018 23:02

I have to agree with everyone else - the cold carbonara sonds disgusting.
However, if you ordered a dish you regularly have, and they serve you something completely different, surely you'd just question it at the time and get it replaced? I don't get why you would 'leave it' Confused

Bimgy85 · 24/08/2018 23:02

@DoubleNegativePanda tell me about it. I can just about hack it in things like sandwiches where there's only a small amount soaked into the bread.

I so fucking wish that this was my biggest problem
I have home made macaroni cheese, you can have the leftovers, its delicious Grin

Bimgy85 · 24/08/2018 23:03

@BackforGood of course I questioned it 😂 that isn't a huge factor so left it out. The woman said that's all they had to make it that morning. Not the usual ingredients.

Getoffthetableplease · 24/08/2018 23:05

Yabu. I find the idea of cold carbonara disgusting, along with the word moist. Incidentally I also don't trust people who don't like mayonnaise, unless it's for ethical reasons like eating eggs etc Grin

aperolspritzplease · 24/08/2018 23:06

Old carbonara would be solid stodgy surely? I'd take the mayo.

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/08/2018 23:07

I assume you mean the kind of carbonara style flavoured white sauce you buy in jars, in which case YANBU.

If you mean authentic carbonara then YABU as it is gopping hot, never mind cold :o

BlankTimes · 24/08/2018 23:07

Not the usual ingredients

Please ask her what the usual ingredients are, the whole of MN want to know what else we can put on cold pasta besides mayo Grin

Bimgy85 · 24/08/2018 23:08

@Poppylizzyrose exactly... which is why I said 'similar to carbonara'

And yes, I should ask her the actual ingredients Grin

Grilledaubergines · 24/08/2018 23:12

Those jarred sauces are not carbonara or carbonara style. Revolting, sugar laden, shit.

Give your taste buds a talking to, jar-sauce-eaters.

Xmasbaby11 · 24/08/2018 23:12

Oh no. That's just wrong. I loathe mayonnaise and would struggle to eat that dish.

I bought pesto pasta salad the other day from Tesco and it had mustard in it. I thought that was bad enough.

ButchyRestingFace · 24/08/2018 23:12

YANBU about the mayo, OP. It pure gied me the dry boak just reading that. Envy

Your are being supremely unreasonable to even entertain the idea of cold pasta though.

BackforGood · 24/08/2018 23:12

Oh.

I was thrown by the fact you said "Had to leave it" rather than return it or ask the waitress/ chef / woman behind the counter to replace it or something

toomanychilder · 24/08/2018 23:14

toomanychilder well that's whatever carbonara you're making. Depends on your taste really. Traditional , eggs, cheese... modern /processed , add cream

Um, no. It's either carbonora or it isn't. And your cold creamy mess is definitely not. It has nothing to do with your taste, it is a thing and if you change all the ingredients, its a different thing entirely.

Singlenotsingle · 24/08/2018 23:16

Mayo means mayo. Everyone knows what it means (unlike Brexit).

Cold "similar to carbonara"? Eugh! What?

DoubleNegativePanda · 24/08/2018 23:19

@grilledaubergines I totally agree it would be a disproportionate reaction. But I truly despise mayo, it ruins everything it touches. And it's now 20 minutes past when I should be off work for the weekend and we've got an emergency in the back so I'm still here. So right now if someone handed me mayo pasta yes, I'd be livid Grin

RedneckStumpy · 24/08/2018 23:20

Sounds like a suitable substitute to me.

Grilledaubergines · 24/08/2018 23:55

Fair dos Panda! I can see you’re at your limit! Hope you get home soon!

bruffin · 25/08/2018 07:05

I once got served mayonnaise with a bit of vinager added as a substitute for hollandaise. That cafe didnt last longGrin
