This is more a wwyd but I know I'll get an honest brutal answer here!
Was with an older relative at second hand market that's held weekly. Same people in pitches. I'd seen something and took relative for a look. While there we saw element that made it less than ideal but still nice. We also saw another item that was nice but WAY out of the price range for what we wanted. We made this clear.
All the time we were getting the hard sell - the problem would actually be an advantage to us, the second object was fantastic quality, would be perfect for us etc. We were polite and said we would go think about it. But said repeatedly that we were looking and making a decision later (and that second item would not work for us). In the end relative said "Please stop the hard sell - it makes us uncomfortable and is less likely to make us buy" and he did a grumpy "oh well you can't put up with me grumble grumble." We were polite throughout.
We repeated we would have a think and started to leave. He meanwhile turns to his colleague and says loudly "Well they can piss off."
It doesn't sound much but it was really unpleasant. There felt to be no escape from his sales and he was pushing a lot. The last bit I'm convinced he wanted us to hear.
So should I report it to the council who runs the market? They really promote it being friendly and this was anything but. And a lot of people who go there are elderly and prebaps would find it hard to say no - he obviously doesn't time it down for them judging by his reaction to relative.
He lost the sale btw - we spoke afterwards and both had decided we wanted it but no way would he profit from us!
