FFS 8 month old fridge freezer died

listsandbudgets · 24/08/2018 13:24

Happened 10 days ago and was full of food of course which all had to be chucked out

It was under guaruntee so company sent out engineer this morning who finally announced he needed to order parts so would be about 2 to 3 weeks before hed be able to fit them ( provided they turn up)

Now going to have no fridge / freezer for better part of a month... very very pissed off.

Any ideas on what I can do ( and no buying another isn't an option and no where to put the thing anyway)

Help...

If it were me, I would inform the shop that it is not acceptable to wait weeks for a possible repair, but would rather they just replaced the fridge/freezer.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/08/2018 13:31

I agree with trying to get them to replace it, or at the very least they can deliver a loaner while you wait for repairs. That is if you can fit it in your home.

Munchyseeds · 24/08/2018 14:01

I would argue that its not fit for purpose and they need to replace

kaytee87 · 24/08/2018 14:02

Yep, tell them they need to replace.

ChipmunksAreMissing · 24/08/2018 14:11

Exactly the same happened to us with our Fridge freezer from a retailer beginning with a C and is very spicy! Wink
They tried to palm me off with an engineer but when I spoke to him, he said we would have to wait weeks. I called them back, spoke to a manager, and said I would go to Twitter if they didn't replace it. I had a new one four days later and £100 in a BACs transfer to cover the food.

Time to get (politely) cross with someone, me thinks!

listsandbudgets · 24/08/2018 14:29

I think you may be right. I'm bl**dy fuming to be honest.

I don't think it was the engineer's fault as he spent quite a long time working on it but I'm dreading the next bit.

The engineer came directly from the manufacturer so I'm hoping they'll be slightly more efficient than the spicy shop but holding out little hope :(

In the meantime I'm cooking up the contents of the fridge - we will just have to feast on strange things kept in cool boxes for a couple of days. Our neighbours have very little space in their freezer but have agreed to put in a few ice blocks and swap them round every day so we've some way of keeping things cool

You can buy a plug in cool box that may help. We got one recently from Halfords.

Quote the Sales of Goods Act to them! My Samsung washer dryer from Next died just after the 2 year warranty had run out and I phoned them and explained that under the act they have to sell me something that should last for a reasonable amount of time - longer than 2 years for a £500 washer dryer. They gave a good fight but in the end I got a brand new one for free.

listsandbudgets · 24/08/2018 15:10

Thanks Kaytee87 looks like its off to Halfords tomorrow then

Sale of goods act sounds like it mihgt be worth a try especially as in the manual the blurb says that the product should give me many years of service!

@listsandbudgets

The sales of goods act allows them one attempt at a repair and then they need to replace. That's what they are doing.

If you don't want to wait for the repair then you just need to pressure them into replacing it with social media or begging.

listsandbudgets · 24/08/2018 15:21

Thanks NaomiNagata, guess I'll have to wait then. Not happy about how long its going to take especaily as already waited 10 days for engineer :(

Never mind perhaps we can live on Macdonalds and spaghetti hoops!

You might be able to get them to reimburse the cost of a mini fridge?
