To think it’s entirely possible to have an addiction to unhealthy foods

I’m not horrendously over weight but would like to lose a couple of stone to make me feel better (1 stone would get me to a healthy BMI).
I’ve tried so many times and so many different ways to get myself eating healthily and within a day or two I’m shovelling crisps and other junk down me.
I get headaches and the shakes and end up buying unhealthy snacks (usually at work) so I can concentrate and actually function properly.
I don’t know how to get over this. I could give up wine easier than I could give up crap food and that’s saying something!
(Fully expecting to just be told that I’m greedy bugger and need to sort myself out!)

Yep of course it is. Sugar addiction is real and MSG is literally designed to make you want more and more.

If I over indulge I need to “wean” myself off the crap or I end up with a migraine. Especially if I have been having too much bread and stuff

I had to cut out everything from my diet due to baby having sensitivities (breastfed baby) and the first weeks were awful. I felt like utter shite. Headaches, weakness, etc

The symptoms you describe suggest to me that you are cutting your intake too far, regardless of food type. Yes, sugar addiction is really a thing, but the shaking and overeating aren’t necessarily indicative of that. You need to eat closer to your TDEE and increase your exercise as well as gradually improving the quality of food from which your calories come.

If it's suagr and fats your body is craving it's probably easier to start with making healthier substitutions for these, like an apple instead of a packet of sweets, nuts instead of crisps, dark chocolate instead of a snickers. These foods also metabolise slower meaning you won't get a sugar crash as easily.

Are you actually eating enough when you eat healthier. When I eat enough of healthy foods, I don't crave the junk. What makes me crave the junk is under eating so that I'm so hungry I could eat a horse.

If you get headaches and shakes you're probably not eating enough or eating very healthy really. Also if you're cutting down your caffeine consumption you will feel like death for a while. I think you should eat more healthy food. Look into something like Slimming world or weight watchers no count plan. Basic, healthy eating.

Sugar isn’t physically addictive (as in your won’t experience physical withdrawal) so it doesn’t sound as though that’s what causes your symptoms. Low bloody sugar maybe?

Sugar addiction is very, very real, and if you don't get control over your eating habits, those couple of stones will turn into many stones. The withdrawal period will be hard but you can do it.
