About lost coat?

My dd who is 8 went on holiday to an activity centre for a week last week. As advised, literally everything she took had a name tape in, even knickers!

She came back with everything, except the one thing that was expensive, which was her coat. I sent her with lots of old clothes that I wasn’t too worried about getting trashed, but on the list it said to pack a coat. The only coat I had for her that was both waterproof and not too thin/thick was one that was a sought after brand, and was a lovely eye catching coat.

It obviously caught someone’s eye as it didn’t come back. I have now phoned the centre 3 times and they have been quite vague and unhelpful, but basically I think it’s gone.

So clearly someone has nicked it, and I’m so pissed off. If you pay a fuck load of money to send your 8 year old on holiday, it’s a bit off that they come back with stuff having been robbed, when it’s clearly named.

The centre are a bit like oh well that’s life, nothing we can do about it, but I think that’s a bit of a crap attitude.

Oh, and she may have come back minus a naice coat but she is riddled with nits to make up for it.

Theft seems to have become almost socially acceptable these days. Sadly.

firstworldproblems2018 · 23/08/2018 22:06

It’s a bit rubbish but tbh I wouldn’t have sent an expensive coat away... can she remember when she last had it?

ThatchersCold · 23/08/2018 22:08

Apparently she left it on the pegs where coats where meant to be hung.

I know I shouldn’t have packed the expensive one but it was either that or probably spend at least £15 on a cheaper one just for the holiday which seemed a bit daft at the time.

Do you know any of the dps? Watch their fb for pics of a dc wearing it.

ThatchersCold · 23/08/2018 22:10

No I don’t know any of them, it’s a centre where kids come from all over the place to go to.

Its not ok regardless but dd7 has lost a million cardigans theee last few months but aged 3-4 with stikins coming home 🙄🙄 think only way is to reinstruct to bring stuff home!

I doubt it's been deliberately stolen. Children don't always know the value of things. It probably just got bundled in with someone else's stuff. Easily done when a group of kids are all grabbing all their clothes (probably hung up on the floor) at once to pack and its mayhem. The other parent might not have even realised they have it yet if they haven't sorted everything out. My daughter also came home from camp this year minus her jacket which luckily wasn't expensive but was her best waterproof so am disappointed but I don't expect the staff at the centre to pack her things and am holding my daughter responsible for looking (or rather, not) looking after her things.

AriadnePersephoneCloud · 23/08/2018 22:14

Sorry just saw you said it was hung in a peg. Really don't know what the centre could do about it. Assuming they had upwards of 50 children there, aside from calling all the parents to ask them to check, how could they help.

Rebecca36 · 23/08/2018 22:14

I remember my son going away with school with a really good jacket and coming home without it. I contacted the teacher who took them and there was no joy! Hard luck.

Sorry you have had this experience, not much I can add.

Parisproperty · 23/08/2018 22:16

I know it is too late fir this time, but for years my dc went on school trips and similar holidays with jumble sale and charity shop clothes. Even scout camps weren't exempt.
Things were either destroyed, stolen or lost.
Theft in schools is shocking.
One of my dc went to a highly sought after grammar school.
The level of dishonest behaviour from pupils, parents and staff was extraordinary.

ThatchersCold · 24/08/2018 00:27

I know there’s not much I can do except chalk it up to experience.

Might send her with 7 days worth of bin bags next year (named of course) Grin
