To be worried about discoloured fingers

Since last night my fingers keep going a bluey black colour while I am just sitting in my chair. It looks as if I have been handling newsprint (I haven’t) and it washes off! I can’t work out what could be causing it. I am just sitting watching tv.
Any ideas? I have washed my hands half a dozen times, fingers go pink then an hour or so later they start to go grey (especially round the nails).

Op i know my suggestion is going to sound drastic, but why not try this today,..every time you touch anything, whether it's the arm of a sofa, a door handle etc look at your hands...it will cancel out what isn't causing it, and you might just be able to catch what is causing it...just keep checking your hands even if you are only resting your hands on your knees (I have had clothes that seem to bleed colour when worn)..

Is it happening all day or at a certain time of day or in a certain room? (If we can narrow it down maybe we can all put our heads together and solve it for you)

I am glad to hear that it wipes off though, at least we can rule out it being health/circulation caused

Were you doing anything else whilst watching TV, even absentmindedly? Eating or drinking anything? Knitting? Looking at a magazine? Did you have to pick anything up or move anything?

stillnotTheDoctor · 24/08/2018 10:50

Either your touching something or it's a circulation problem x

What colour is your leather chair?

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/08/2018 12:18

Wear some thin surgical plastic gloves for a day, and see what your fingers are like when you take them off - if clean, that would be a good indication that it's external.

Dh suggested I ask the pharmacy as it wasn’t a problem for the doctors as it washed off

What would the pharmacy do? There’s no treatment for dirty hands. I find this thread so odd.

Anxious2niteaaah · 25/08/2018 10:16

Op wear disposable latex or non latex gloves for a day and see if the colour appears on the gloves...if it still appears in your fingers (while wearing the gloves) and still wipes off then your body would some how be exuding the stuff out of the skin,

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 25/08/2018 10:21

Do you a new black top? I did this once, went out in my lovely, new top couldn't understand why my hands were filthy when I went to the loo, got home and the top half of my body had also picked up the dye.

wowfudge · 25/08/2018 10:25

Do you put handcream on after you've washed your hands? It can act as a solvent on some finishes - a colleague wore the letters off her keyboard using handcream very regularly. It could be that you've used something different to clean your chair and that has affected it. If you are seeing this on your hands, have you checked the backside area of whatever you are wearing?

MadeForThis · 25/08/2018 10:32

A pet?

Ginkypig · 25/08/2018 10:46

Have you got a real fire source at home.

My grandmother, had a fire and the room looked clean but occasionally my hands were dirty due to the invisible soot, I also had black inside my nose which made blowing your nose an odd experience!

Ginkypig · 25/08/2018 10:47

Sorry I should add it wasn't coal, it was wood.

picklemepopcorn · 25/08/2018 10:52

Newspaper?

picklemepopcorn · 25/08/2018 10:53

Did you polish shoes recently? Maybe shoe polish got on something?

Frusso · 25/08/2018 11:14

Do you have peppers in your fridge?

Have you been touching them. peppers do this when they stay to turn.

Frusso · 25/08/2018 11:17

*start

It doesn't happen straight away, usually an hour or so after touching them.

thegreylady · 25/08/2018 21:27

Today I cleaned all the leather chairs and sofa with leather wipes and my hands have stayed clean all day.
DerektheBrave I agree it is an odd thread but honestly it was a very odd experience to be sitting in my usual seat watching tv and my hands getting filthy every few minutes!

Hopefully that's the end of it, OP Smile
