Totally don't want to come across as bragging and hope I'm not being unreasonable..........but so so proud and wanted to share.

DD did fantastic and is among 732 students nationally to get 7 grade 9s and above this year.

So so proud of her.

Well the numbers mean nothing to me but yanbu to be proud of your child for working hard and trying their best regardless of their grades

ChateauRouge · 23/08/2018 18:02

You have a lot to be proud of! Even the super-able don't get 7x 9s without a lot of hard work too. I hope she is having a well-deserved rest ahead of September courses starting.
I imagine you're feeling elated and relieved today Smile

Icantbelieve · 23/08/2018 18:04

Nice one. Hopefully she’s making some smart post 16 choices

FlibbertyGiblets · 23/08/2018 18:04

Yanbu Sandy. Revel in your dds achievement, I totes did would.

Pengggwn · 23/08/2018 18:06

Fantastic! What a super star.

Also, a big well done to each and every one of the GCSE students out there who did their very own best in something and have things to feel proud of. These new exams aren't easy.

PanicAtTheCostco · 23/08/2018 18:08

What's a grade 9??
Is it not A, B, C anymore?

mogloveseggs · 23/08/2018 18:10

Well done to your dd

chrisrobin · 23/08/2018 18:31

That's brilliant, well done to your DD!

MongerTruffle · 23/08/2018 18:33

Panic No, unless you are in Wales, Northern Ireland or taking iGCSEs.

irregularegular · 23/08/2018 18:34

Well done her! Those are great grades.

(though I think you will find that there were more than 732 who got 7 grade 9s, but only 732 who got all grade 9s AND at least 7 of them - I say this as someone who initially thought my DD was one of the 732)

SandyY2K · 23/08/2018 19:02

A grade 9 is higher than the previous A*. This year group were the guinea pigs for the new GCSE courses.

It's been a challenge for some of the teachers not knowing what they were teaching, with these government changes...but she's pleased as punch.

Well done, she must have worked really hard.

My DNiece got 7 grade 9 too (and was only a couple of points off on 2 other subjects which are being remarked)

She worked so hard for those grades, but my goddaughter didn't do well so I can't really shout about DNs grades IRL.

SandyY2K · 24/08/2018 00:35

@Sixgeese

My DNiece got 7 grade 9 too

Congratulations to your niece.

DD is something of perfectionist and wants her marks to see if its worth having the one subject she got an 8 in remarked. I

Congratulations to your daughter, those are great results.

Irregularegular you are right. Anyone who got seven 9s ISN'T in that 732. You had to take at least seven GCSEs and score 9s in all of the GCSEs you've taken.

KnotsInMay · 24/08/2018 07:55

Fantastic achievement, she had fine really well. You must be glowing.

belleandsnowwhite · 24/08/2018 08:02

That is excellent!

Mine got one 9 and the rest 7s and a couple of 6s so happy too! She is over the moon with her 9 in English literature and hopefully do as well in A level.

NachoCheese22 · 24/08/2018 08:12

You're right to be proud of her, she must of worked hard! We'll done to her. I'm super proud of my DD too. She achieved one 4, seven 5's and a B. For a kid that was only getting 3's in her mocks, she knuckled down and got good enough grades to get her first choice college course

tumpymummy · 24/08/2018 08:25

Well done to DD and to you! But I don't understand the seven 9s? What if you took 10 GCSEs and seven of them were 9s and the rest 8s or 7s?! Or does it only apply to the children who took 7 GCSEs?!

Poloshot · 24/08/2018 08:27

Nice one

SandyY2K · 25/08/2018 15:37

@belleandsnowwhite Congratulations to your DD.

@NachoCheese22
Well done to your DD too.
It's great when their hard work pays off.

Thanks @tumpymummy

This is from the guardian on results day.

The top grade that students can receive in the newly reformedGCSEsis a 9. A small number of students - 732 to be precise - achieved this grade in seven or more exams with more girls than boys managing this feat.

Perhaps it was an error by the guardian. With all these numbers, rather than letters that we're used to...
It can be confusing.
DD took 11 subjects and got eight 9s, an 8 and an A*. That subject is still in the old style.

Regardless of whether or not she falls in that category, we're so proud of her achievements.

A couple of her teachers suggested she could make some money by tutoring younger kids in the Explore learning centres. I can stop giving her pocket money then.Smile

With her sister off to Uni this year, we could do with reducing expenses where possible.

Out of interest (I might need to start another thread) ... If anyone has a DC in university, do you give them a monthly allowance? If so how much if you don't mind answering.

OP posts:
Cakeisbest · 25/08/2018 15:42

My DC has a secondary card on my credit card and uses that to pay for living expenses, comes in around £250 a month on average.

Daftasabroom · 25/08/2018 15:50

DS got 5 x 9s, 2 x 8, 1 x 7, but it's his 6 in English we're most chuffed with. He really struggles with writing very very slow.

HannahnotAgnes · 25/08/2018 15:55

Brilliant results all - well done to all the kids who have worked hard, whatever their results.

Confusedbeetle · 25/08/2018 16:00

Lovely news for you, but please bear in mind those who are disappointed with the results. This is a huge forum

SnowyAlps · 25/08/2018 16:20

Congratulations to her.

Also a big congratulations to all the kids who sat exams. We need to celebrate the 2s, 3s etc, just as much. Many of the kids that scored what some think are low grades, will have worked just as hard to secure them.

For those who are disappointed, in a few years time very few of them will actually be asked their GCSE results, it’s not the end of the world and there are many other routes they can take.

Well done All.
