To cancel the BBQ?

Blatantly posting here for traffic.
DD has threadworm. My first experience of it and not one I want to repeat.

We’ve treated the whole household as a precaution, and changed bedding/towels, hoovered, disinfected floors etc.

But... we can’t be sure it’s fully out the house. I mean... what if we didn’t know for ages? What if we’ve been spreading little critter eggs for ages. What if they’re on toys? I have hoovered toys in beds but not them all. Should I?

Now comes the crunch.

We’re due to have a BBQ this weekend. About 40 people, loads of children including young ones that still put things in their mouth. No problem I thought. Everyone will be outside. We’ll be prepping the food and will be taking all usual hygiene precautions as you would when you prep food.

But... it’s due to piss it down. That might mean everyone coming inside. Children crawling around everywhere putting things in mouths. Is that safe? What if I give one of them worms! Am I being hysterical? Honestly would you want to still come round? Should I warn everyone, and/or say nothing and/or cancel?

What would you want if you were coming here and AIBU to panic and cancel?

And yes BBQ in the rain is a bit crap. But if we cancel it’ll never happen so I’d like it to go ahead. Just... worms.

I’m with Jaxhog and PineapplePen07 but we are clearly a minority,
I personally wouldn’t want to come so do let people know then they can decide if they are happy to come or not.
Good luck with the weather

apparently it's estimated that between 20-30 % of primary age children have them at any point in time, so you were probably going to invite some more worms over.... It's icky, but at least the medicine in this country is relatively cheap and it's over and done quickly.

Until the next time...

mothersanonymous · 23/08/2018 17:24

Several of the other children have probably got them, I'd just go ahead. But for goodness sake stop telling people.

Onehellofaride · 23/08/2018 17:34

Yep go ahead. DD has had them twice no one else got them.
Tablet and a good wash of things and it’s sorted.

YABU, you don't need to cancel the bbq. children can pick up anything from any pet at any time. If people are that worried then they should never enter a house with a pet in, or a child, or visit any sort of farm or zoo etc etc etc.

Some advice I had when DC had worms, was to wear leggings to bed, so that they can't scratch in their sleep and get worms under their fingernails and reinfect . lovely
