If you had a long weekend completely to yourself

WWYD? DS has gone on a camping trip, DP is away at a festival, DFIL who lives with us has gone abroad on holiday. For the first time in what feels like forever, I am going to have the house to myself for 4 whole days. I’m excited at the thought of peace and quiet, eating whatever I want and not having to look after anyone apart from myself. But I’m worried I’ll get bored. I’m at work at the moment but I have the evenings and all weekend to myself.

AIBU to steal your ideas for enjoying this much free time? I don’t watch much TV, in fact I’ll be glad the TV isn’t on constantly as it always is usually. But I’ll happily binge on something really good if anyone can recommend something? I read a lot but I don’t have any decent books on my reading list currently and I’ve just finished one that was awful. I’m up for a bit of pampering etc. I haven’t made any social plans as I’m trying to save money.

Has anyone who is usually a busy mum recently had a break from their partner and kids? What did you indulge in?

Aww sounds lovely OP.

First thing I would do is clean the house, change the bed and then it would remain tidy and lovely for four entire days.

Then I would look at book charts and order a new book from best sellers.

I would invite friends or friend round one night, bring a bottle and do nibbles, wine and good catch up.

Long walk followed by a good soak in the bath.

Is there a pool nearby at a hotel type place? Swim and sit in jacuzzi can be a nice pamper.

Marks and spencer for some food treats maybe.

WhiteKnuckleRide · 23/08/2018 13:13

fourpawswhite lovely ideas thank you. Most of the house is very tidy but I will give the bathroom a good clean when I get in today. Our local pool is currently shut down for major renovations which is a shame as I wouldn’t have minded a swim. In fact there’s not much to do around here Sad A long walk would be good to get me out though as you suggested. Forgot to mention I will also be ordering a takeaway one night with wine which will be bliss! Haven’t yet decided between Indian or Chinese food!

I'd spend a little time initially making sure I'd got the house straight, wouldn't take long. It would just aid the feeling of being relaxed.

I'd have coffee with a couple of cousins, we always have great chats, maybe a night out with friends.

Spend some unintterupted time on the crafts I like doing, eat a couple of meals containing foods the rest of the family don't like (so I don't normally do them).

I'd listen to music, and read, and other stuff I don't often do.

My partner and I recently had a couple of days to ourselves and we mostly just binge watched Luke Cage!

But if it were just me, I'd probably :

Have a really long bubble bath
Binge watch Brooklyn nine nine
Do my nails and have a face mask
A long relaxing yoga and meditation session
Read. At the moment I'm reading Extracted, which I got for free on prime reading
Go for long walks
Make banana bread and eat it all
Play a LOT of The Sims 4 lol

I too would change the sheets, buy a new book or three, spend some time on crafts if I felt like it, enjoy the silence of no music on and the luxury of eating exactly what I wanted when I wanted, even if that means breakfast cereal for dinner or a snack at 3am when reading a really good book in bed :-) and then I would really look forward to the return of the family

Tidy the house, fresh sheets, book a massage, go shopping for some new books. Buy my favourite dinner, favourite bottle of wine and a dvd and curl up. Lie in. Also nap. Ah bliss.

Jenjenyeahyeah · 23/08/2018 15:13

Definitely tidy the house on day 1 so you’ve got a lovely fresh house to relax in. I’d go shopping and buy some yummy m&s treats, some fresh flowers and a new book and fancy bath oil. I’d enjoy the silence and calm, I’d eat when I was hungry, nap when I was tired and generally just recharge.
Tv-wise If you like gripping real life stories I highly recommend Unibomber on Netflix, it’s intelligent and gripping.
Have a wonderful relaxing weekend!

Bluelady · 23/08/2018 15:18

You asked for a viewing recommendation - Unforgettable is brilliant. The first two six parters are on Netflix and the most recent is on ITV hub. The Crown is fab, also on Netflix.

Kintan · 23/08/2018 15:23

Ooh lucky you! I would catch up on all the books I’ve been meaning to read and not had the time, take long bubble baths, cook my favourite foods, go to a couple of yoga classes, go swimming, visit and exhibition or two, and take lots of naps. Hope you have a lovely time :)

WhiteKnuckleRide · 23/08/2018 15:28

Bluelady Thank you for the recommendation, I’ve heard good things about Unforgotten. I didn’t realise all the seasons were available to watch, I shall have a look on Netflix.

Thank you everyone for your lovely ideas. I will be doing most of the things you’ve all suggested which all sound really relaxing if a little indulgent Grin

I would also tackle one thing that I have been meaning to do but never have the space or time, before totally relaxing, like clearing out/de-cluttering and sending a load of stuff to charity. I love the feeling of clearing out old stuff. That helps me then settle down to guilt free indulging :)
Light some lovely scented candles and enjoy a peaceful, clean tidy home.
Echo all the ideas above. I would definitely read a book and also binge watch something. Am eyeing up Alias Grace on netflix having been gripped by the Handmaids tale. I also have also wanted to watch Big Little Lies forever and so I would prime this for next day delivery!
Enjoy!

PaulRuddislush · 23/08/2018 15:49

Although I've already seen it, I'd watch all 20 hours of The Crown and then channel my inner Princess Margaret and get rat-arsed.
