Neighbour dumping washing machine by her house

I'm fully prepared to be told i'm being a cunt.

I live in a row of terraces - neighbour next door has an end terrace. Neighbour has had her of washing machine dumped around the side of the house in full view for the past 2 months. It costs £15 for the council to collect it. Garden is also overgrown (they use the back as a dog shit run) - I doubt they clean up the shit. Neighbour works pt and is home a lot so has time.

It just looks like a big eyesore as you can see it as soon as you come into the cul-de-sac. It looks fucking terrible.

I don't think YABU at all. I think people think that others will take anything, and I think even chancers are becoming more choosy! There was a house opposite that put an old washing machine outside and it was there for about 2 weeks: I can't imagine anyone taking one other than for scrap, unless you are a whizz at mending broken washing machines! Another house near us left an old radiator outside for over a month: no idea if that eventually got taken, but it used to drive me mad having it laid by the pavement. Our council's removal service is really good value: when we used them they told us not to put the stuff outside until the morning of collection. There's a house I go past every day and they've put some crappy looking kids' toys outside, clearly hoping that they will be taken and save them a trip to the tip … they've been there since the beginning of August, so I don't much fancy their chances.

Council will take fridge free of charge

Council will take fridge free of charge

Ours won't, it costs £20. forms.enfield.gov.uk/eforms/eform_WASTE/bulkyMessage.aspx

However if the item is not on the owner's property, but down an alleyway or on the pavement, if it is reported by someone else as fly-tipped then the council's fly-tip team will come and remove it.

PilarTernera · 23/08/2018 15:29

Contact the council and tell them it's dumped rubbish. I have done this in the past with stuff my ex-neighbours dumped. My council would prioritise something like this as it is blocking the footpath.

donajimena · 23/08/2018 15:34

bananas that probably explains why the scrappies knocked my door within minutes of mine being put out.
They won't take fridges or freezers though.

SilverySurfer · 23/08/2018 15:59

I don't understand how this affects you at all. It hasn't been dumped on your property. Get on with your own life and stop obsessing over other people's.

ourkidmolly · 23/08/2018 16:05

It's revolting and people should be fined.

It’s really dangerous for a fridge/freezer to be dumped if the doors are still on it; in the past there have been cases where children went inside when playing ‘hide and seek’ and have suffocated to death as once inside they’re unable to get out.

The owner needs to be informed that she must remove the doors, but if she is abusive then you need to call the council. (Hmmm just wondering....would any neighbours help to remove the door....especially if they have kids?)

You actually went out to see what else she had? In the nicest possible way, OP, either go and speak to your neighbour like a grown up or leave the woman alone.

SilverySurfer · 24/08/2018 09:04

But it's not fly tipping, it's on the neighbour's own land.

Glitteryfrog · 24/08/2018 09:12

Report to the borough council (Not county).
They will remove if it's on their land... and will attempt to fine the owner.
I'm constantly reporting fly tipping. I think I'm up to 7 or 8 reports this week.
