To seriously take a hammer to my neighbours alarm

I live opposite a house converted to flats. For the last 48 hours the burglar alarm has been continuously going off. And I mean no breaks. I have no idea how the tenants can't have taken action, but it is driving me insane - I'm on holiday from work but back tomorrow - but I'm currently sitting in my bedroom in tears.

I've called the council three times and they have sent a local support officer three times, to witness the noise. They have been as I have seen them. They say that all they can do it try and find the key holder? Surely this isn't right?

Firstly the flats are tenanted so why can they not ask the tenants to gain entry to the communal areas?

Presumably the landlord doesn't care so how long should this go on for? How long will it be allowed to go on for? Should I just put my house on the market and be done with it?!

Thinking of either going and smashing it with a hammer or maybe asking my next door neighbour to also put a complaint in?

Help please!

Have also put note through neighbours door asking them to complain but not sure what else can be done?

Ring the police and tell them you suspect a burglary is taking place in the flat opposite you because the alarm is going off.

This would be my worst nightmare. My tolerance for this kind of loud repetitive noise is very low. I'd be crying too... surely someone must do something, it's literally disturbing the peace. How is anyone getting any sleep?

I literally just saw a policewoman scouting outside but she says she can't get in touch with anyone. Seemed to think it will funny! Surely eventually they have to gain entry?!

I thought domestic alarms had to have a shut off after a certain time (5 mns ?) to be legal?

Maybe the tenants are on holiday/away.
We set our alarms when we go away, so they go off and the noise means someone calls the police if something were to happen.
They aren't on if we aren't around
