NC for this as it's pretty outing.

Listed my steriliser on a Facebook page to get rid of it for free. It's perfect working order and in pretty good condition. Came as part of a big set with bottles and items to clean the bottles but these are all long gone so just the steriliser remained.

A friend of mine commented on the add asking if her friend could have it (I also know the friend) she joked about this friends bf being pregnant. I arranged with them to come and collect it.

I'm also 16 weeks pregnant so when the friend showed up she congratulated me and I then congratulated her she then told me she wasn't pregnant I know my face gave my confusion away so she went on to explain she was giving it to someone she knows as a baby shower gift.

I'm all for recycling and waste not want not but for crying out loud!!!

A) it was a free item
B) it's not in immaculate condition and the other bits are missing.
C) no box or instructions either

Would you give someone a used item as a actual present especially one you had just got off someone on Facebook. The person she is giving it to does not know me for all she knows i could live like a total animal (I dont btw)

I just thought the whole thing was a bit scabby and also in a funny way a bit cheeky. It sort of sits with me the same way as someone taking something for free and then trying to sell it although i know it's not the same. Thoughts please? I'm prepared to be told iabu and half of me did find it all quite funny.

There's a wide range of people. For her this is acceptible, for others it wouldn't be.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 22/08/2018 21:22

Well it's not something I'd do personally...

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 22/08/2018 21:24

It’s grim and I’d have told her so.

Cheekyfseverywhere · 22/08/2018 21:24

I just couldn't do it. So awkward me congratulating her as well I was led to believe she was pregnant though!

I reckon she's going to put it on eBay.

toomanychilder · 22/08/2018 21:26

I have no clue as to what you are complaining about. You wanted rid of an item, someone took the item, will give it to someone they think will get use from the item. I'm failing to see any issue here.

Notreadyforkidstogrowupyet · 22/08/2018 21:27

In the past how have you got over someone that doesn't want you?

Notreadyforkidstogrowupyet · 22/08/2018 21:28

Sorry wrong thread xxxx

Cheekyfseverywhere · 22/08/2018 21:29

It's not an issue as such I just thought it was all a bit funny and quite an odd thing to do im glad the item has gone as it was taking much needed cupboard space but they had me beleive she was pregnant and then she told me she wasn't and was actually using it as a baby shower gift if she had said she got it for a friend or family memeber that was expecting a baby but didn't have a lot of money I would of thought no more about it but she actually said a baby shower gift.

Sorry bout that cheeky lol.and thank you Grin

melj1213 · 22/08/2018 21:32

Tbh I don't see the issue - presumably the person you gave it to knows that her pregnant friend will appreciate the sterilizer even if it is well used.

Perhaps the friend has asked people not to go out and buy new things or is happy to use second hand items to save costs. If I had another baby now I would have to go out and buy new everything as my DD is 10 and all her baby stuff is long gone, and none of my friends have babies to pass stuff on from, so I would be happy to take a second hand sterilizer as long as it worked because it would be one less thing to pay for.

Cheekyfseverywhere · 22/08/2018 21:35

Mel please don't get me wrong I'm not against having 2nd hand items I've had loads of stuff for my dd but usually when I take a 2nd hand item I like to go and collect myself just so I can check it's from pet and smoke free homes.
