Driving from Cambridge up to Edinburgh in a few weeks time, with 2 small ones. Where can we stop off for milk, nappy changes , petrol ? We have National Trust cards and are happy to do a short detour if needed.

Don't go to Blyth (Doncaster)! Small and every man woman and dog seemed to be there. Long queue for the loos!!

user199714 · 22/08/2018 22:51

Ferrybridge is my favourite when we drive between Nottingham and Newcastle on the A1 as its halfway for us and you can park close to the entrance and not have to walk miles to the toilet like you do at Wetherby. I second Gibside though if you want to stop off at a NT place, it's fab.

MrsJayy · 22/08/2018 22:52

Seeing as nobody has mentioned themTEBAY 😁 are nice services

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 22/08/2018 22:58

Leigh Delaware
Whoever mentioned Leigh Delaware yes great services but they’re close to Chippenham and the OP would have to go 200 miles out of their way

Shoppingwithmother · 22/08/2018 23:00

Tebay.....of course!

meadowmeow · 22/08/2018 23:04

Tebay is at the other side of the country!

Fruitbatdancer · 22/08/2018 23:09

Hmm I don’t know if it’s on your route? But the services on the M6 toll road are fab. Quite, new, modern. A nicer class of folk on the M6 toll as they’ve paid a fiver to be there 😉🤣

As well as checking out the NT, check out Wyevale Garden Centres who have a "more than motorways' page somewhere on their website which is garden centres a few miles from motorway junctions. Some have soft play, some have outdoor play areas, some have. aquatic shops (so loads of fish to look at) or pet shops. All have a decent cafe that does baby & children's meals. And all seem to turn a blind eye if you're playing hide and seek or similar around the plants (obviously something we only did if it was quiet).
I will always have a soft spot for the one near junc 22 of the M5 where I stopped half way through a 5hr journey with a 12 week old and a 2.5yro and two of the staff ran around me and the DC cutting up DD's chicken, jiggling DS whilst I ate once he'd fed, bringing DD another drink for free when she split hers etc. I seem to recall they sold brio or similar train set and had a little track set up which DD happily played with for 30 mins or so whilst I sat and fed DS (again).

firehousedog1 · 22/08/2018 23:15

Yes the one near Gloucester on the m4. It's like a farm shop with proper organic produce. No KFC, etc in sight.

FromNowOn · 22/08/2018 23:53

If I lived near Gloucester services I would just go there, all the time. and have no money left

VeniVidiWeeWee · 23/08/2018 00:21

Some topographically challenged people here. The OP said Cambridge to Edinburgh.

ePurSiMuove · 23/08/2018 05:46

South Mimms

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 23/08/2018 08:56

Sorry, I'm one of the geographically challenged people Blush I saw Edinburgh and didn't properly look where you were starting - just thought about my own route!

hallsaresweeties · 08/09/2018 03:33

Yes this is our route. Ideally somewhere for a naice breakfast on the way and then lunch later on I suppose

Theworldisfullofgs · 08/09/2018 03:37

No services but NT. Fountains Abbey.
We always go there on way up to Edingburgh.

vinegarqueen · 08/09/2018 04:06

another vote for Donnington, and also Trowell

QuestionableMouse · 08/09/2018 04:33

Weatherby is okay, but busy. There's a Gregg's pod outside for quick sandwiches though which is handy.

QuestionableMouse · 08/09/2018 04:36

Oh and the Morrisons at Berwick is close to the A1 and has a cafe and a coffee shop. Iirc there's also a McDonald's on the same site. I drove from Sunderland to Edinburgh in May... It was a nice drive but we found there wasn't many places to stop past the border.

hallsaresweeties · 08/09/2018 10:56

Looks like we're going to have to stop at Doncaster !
