Poor ds aged 2.5 laceration to forehead about 3 inches across which has been glued. It just awful akin to once of those gory fake injuries people put on at halloween at the minute poor baby.
everyone keeps saying it will be ok. But how long to heal?
I can’t imagine it will fade to nothing it’s far too big all my friends comparisons are to their dcs that had little nicks here and there.
Surgeon said we could look at revising it once ds is older if needed but that’s so far away 😢
I’m really panicking for him

Fell off my bike when I was 9 loads of cuts/scars but only 2 are visible now, 20odd years on and they are very faint.

Kids heal really well this was DD's awful injury and 4 years on you can hardly see the scar, she has to be transferred and stitched by plastic surgeon

ForgivenessIsDivine · 22/08/2018 21:23

DS had a rather nasty cut in his finger.. plastic surgeon who stitched it advised massaging it regularly with oil. He prescribed something but said there is no evidence that any one thing works more effectively than another as long as you use some sort of oil to ease the massaging motion. I would avoid bio oil myself as it has some pretty hideous ingredients and is far from organic despite the name. I use rosehip oil. Also a friend was advised to keep her sons facial scar out of the son for a year!!! Baseball caps and lots of high factor sunscreen. My DH made a right mess of his forehead once when drunk... rosehip oil helped loads!!

When my daughter cut open the bridge of her nose the plastic surgeon gave me an eye ointment to use. She said it's the best thing for reducing scars. It was called chloramphenicol. You can buy it over the counter or ask the doctor for it.

We have that ointment I’d assumed it just was to stop infection so if that helps scarring too that’s hopeful

That must have been the ointment the doctor gave me.

DD cut her head open at 3, at nearly 6 now it's almost invisible. We used Kelocote - the surgeon recommended it - and I really rate it

Northumberlandlass · 23/08/2018 18:21

DS’s cheek was cut when he was born (rotational forceps) it was not ‘repaired’ & it was quite wide - while it has become less visible, he has a vague look of ‘eagle eye’ action man.....

Weirdly, both my kids have had this injury. Dd was 3 and had general anaesthetic for dissolvable stitches. DS was 15 months and had it glued. Vertical scars in the middle of the forehead. Dd is now 4.5 and it's almost completely gone. DS is nearly 2 and it's fading. I fully expect them both to disappear. You can only see dd scar if you're really looking for it. Both scars looked awful for months though. Everyone we met immediately asked what had happened.

We were advised to put moisturiser on, which we did daily for the first few months.

My son split his chin open recently, about 2 inches along, it looked a bloody mess at first because the glue mixed with the blood and looked far worse than the reality. 5 weeks later its just a pink line and was told it would take 6 months to go white.

Does your son still have the glue? It makes it look so much worse OP, the skin will heal neatly.

DS has had several quite spectacular injuries over the years, all healed with almost no visible signs. He was an adventurous child and very quick off the blocks, unlike his unblemished sister.
As a PP said, keep the sun off the injury, hats, sunshades, coverings...and when it’s healed, moisturise. I’ve heard good things over the years about bio oil, but have no experience of using it. You will feel the effect of his injury much longer than he will.

Ollivander84 · 23/08/2018 19:01

This is barely a thin white line after 18 months

Ollivander84 · 23/08/2018 19:02

Should have said 12 months! But here it is
