I currently work a day a week as a volunteer in a charity shop. I generally work upstairs sorting through donations. There is no window so it gets incredibly hot. There is also no sink upstairs to wash your hands which is a bit problematic given some of the contents gifted.

The only sink we have is downstairs in the loo and it is right next to the toilet. This is where drinking water is sourced from. Is this normal? I feel it Is unhygienic but I might be a bit unreasonable.

YANBU, if it were me I’d take my own hand sanitizer and a bottle of water.

OP, have a look at this. Any workplace is obliged to comply....It's the Welfare Regs.

I've worked in healthcare for years and don't blink at being splashed with every kind of bodily fluid - but I would be taking a box of disposable gloves and hand sanitizer! I wouldn't dream of donating something that hasn't been cleaned/washed prior but am aware that not everyone thinks alike. But you shouldn't really have to be paying from your own pocket, surely it would be considered PPE which is a requirement and just because you're volunteering shouldn't mean you work in an unsuitable environment
