To think it wasn't worth going on holiday!

Away on holiday with oh and dd11 and ds8 eldest ds is 23 and he hasnt come on holiday with us for a long time, he doesn't live at home but I asked him to stay at ours while we were away to cat sit. He has form for having parties while were away and drinking/eating everything in sight so before we left on Sunday I locked all the good drink in the summer house we took the keys with us( left him a couple of bottles of wine and some beers). I got a frantic phone call on Monday evening to say he'd only just gone to ours and where where the keys to the summer house because the cat was locked in it! Oh wanted to drive 6hour round trip to let the cat out but ds thought he could get one of the windows out with no damage, turns out he couldnt he broke the glass so that now needs replacing! Then he's just rung me to say he's broken the toilet it's making a strange noise, I wish I'd just stayed at home!

Hate to be unsympathetic but everything here that's making you unhappy is a direct consequence of your actions.

TooYoungToBeSoTired · 22/08/2018 14:16

You left the cat locked in? WTF? As to the toilet, it’s just one of those things, doesn’t sound too bad.

Childrenofthesun · 22/08/2018 14:20

Well, either he had to break the glass or your DH had to drive 6 hours or the cat had to starve. Doesn't seem like he had much choice. One pane won't be much to replace and a toilet making a funny noise isn't the end of the world. You sound annoyed with your DS in general. Next time maybe pay a catsitter?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 22/08/2018 14:22

So you'd rather he left the cat in there with no food and water? It's your fault the cat was locked in, give him a break.

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 14:23

So you locked the cat in?

chillpizza · 22/08/2018 14:25

You sure the cat was locked in and he didn’t just realise you stashed the good alcohol in there?

Egg · 22/08/2018 14:25

I suspect the cat wasn’t actually locked in, he just wanted the booze.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/08/2018 14:25

I bet the cat wasn't locked in the summer house at all Wink

Egg · 22/08/2018 14:25

X posts chilpizza!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/08/2018 14:26

x post!

chillpizza · 22/08/2018 14:26

Locked in Sunday morning? To Monday evening in a summer house the cat would of been really dehydrated with the weather we have had locally did he mention a vet...

HollowTalk · 22/08/2018 14:27

The cat wasn't locked in, you daft thing! He knew that's where the booze was and he needed to get in there.

Why on earth you asked someone with a track record of partying to stay in your house when you were on holiday, I don't know. You must be mad.

TaggieRR · 22/08/2018 14:28

How is it your ds’s fault the cat got locked in? And presumably you didn’t want the cat to starve so what else could he have done?

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 22/08/2018 14:28

If the cat really was locked in then that's entirely your making.
Why at 23 would he need to break a window to drink your booze? Can't he buy his own? Do you not think a 23 yr old who can't be trusted to house sit because they might drink all your alcohol is a bit of a problem?

diddl · 22/08/2018 14:56

Well he might not have broken the toilet-it might be easily fixable.

I think the fact that your son broke the glass when faced with your husband driving back shows that he was lying about the cat.

Well lesson learned-he still can't be trusted!

Why did you ask him?

NutElla5x · 22/08/2018 14:57

Sounds like you were more worried about your booze than your cat.Next time drink it all before you go, and tell you son to piss and shit in a bucket.

anotherangel2 · 22/08/2018 14:59

Next time pay a cat sitter to come every day for 15 minutes and sort out the cat.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 22/08/2018 15:01

Sorry but you know he has a history of partying while you're away yet asked him to cat sit? Hmm
There are these things called catterys' , I'd suggest using one next time.

jmh740 · 22/08/2018 19:01

Was meant to be a light hearted post the cat is fine, I had originally asked a friend to cat sit because ds wasn't sure if he would be around or not, he only decided the day before we left he would do it. I am expecting there to be less alcohol in the summer house than when we left

He's just texted me to say he's now on the train back to uni he's probably got all my drink in his bag, my friend is also on cat sitting duty for everyone who's worrying about the cat.

"Was meant to be a light hearted post "

Is was never really going to be though with having to lock up alcohol, take the keys & then a window being broken to get access to said alcohol.

If you had a friend lined up, why not just let them do it?

GONNAENo · 22/08/2018 19:15

Sorry my lovely, but if my 23 year old dc was smashing windows to get at booze I'd be worried about him.
