To wonder if anyone has had a positive experience with their Gp?

After far too many years I have bitten the bullet and made an appointment to see the gp about (what appears to me) my hormonal out of whack-ness. All I ever see is women writing about how their GPs don't take them seriously. It's been my experience too which is one of the reasons I haven't been for 15 years! Please tell me someone, anyone, has a story to tell of being taken seriously by a Gp when it comes to Women's health. There must be positivity out there somewhere? Smile

Mine's lovely too. He's always taken me seriously and always discusses with me any treatment he suggests so I'm fully involved in the management of my health.

My experience with GPs (and experience of family friends) is that they're usually good for straightfoward problems that don't require investigation, but anything more complex it can be very hit or miss.

It took over a year for my mother to het diagnosed with a severe hiatus hernia, this was after multiple appointments to even be referred to hospital for investigations.

A friend if mine was only diagnosed with endometriosis when she got private healthcare with her job, this was after aroynd 4 years of visiting her GP with terrible pain symptoms.

A family member (can't go into too much detail as v. Outing) had a missed cancer diagnosis and died as it was so advanced by the time it was diagnosed.

I can only imagine it's to do with time pressure, and limits on testing etc due to cost? I think unfortunately it pays to keep going back again and again, or to another GP if you feel something isn't right, in a perfect world GPs would get it right first time, but it is a system under strain. I think a lot of GPs do also understand this.

Being clear and concise helped, myself and my friend had the same symptoms and visited the same doctor. I was referred to the two week turnaround appointment for scans. Whereas she was told to continue monitoring her periods. Instead of telling the GP she had an abnormal bleed after 15 months she told him her periods were becoming erratic and been that way for two years. When he asked about time in between periods she couldn’t remember what she said. She went back and he sorted scans straight away.

I've had many GPs over the years, only one was dreadful and incompetent, another thought he'd laugh off my menopause symptoms but changed his mind after a short burst of hormonal fury. So overall I've had excellent treatment from them.
