To be at the end of my rope with this problem

Two pre school kids. Stressful job. House is not great following an extremely busy period at work (I can work at nights or I can do housework but I can’t do both) but I’m slowly but surely getting back on top of it.

We have mice. We caught some in traps but there are more of them. This issue is really really giving me a lot of stress. It gives me the creeps I feel like everything is filthy. Worried about the kids catching something. Constantly hoovering poo. The traps aren’t working fast enough. They do eventually catch the mice but it seems to take ages.

I know I need to get the council out with their poison. It is £50 to do this which we don’t really have but will need to just find it or credit card it or something.

Can anyone put my mind at rest re the use of poison when I have toddlers in the house? This is why we haven’t put poison down so far but I feel that there is no other option now.

Pleas help 😞

Personally I didn't think the council guy was worth it (£70). He just put down poison 'houses' and came back a week later to check if they had been eaten (they hadn't). Loads of traps with chocolate is the way forward. Block any holes/splits in woodwork with a Brillo pad (it is easy to pull this apart for small holes). Peppermint oil is a good deterrent but it won't make them leave their residence nest.

Borrowing a cat or some soiled cat litter and leaving it near the entry points also stops new ones entering.

We ended up paying a local independent pest control. He did 3 visits and was amazingly thorough

They never came back and he disposed of all the bodies....he did a check visit too, to make sure it had worked.

We’re in West Yorkshire

It was £70

Neosorexa Gold is the only thing that works I've found. There's no smell either.

You can get poison that isn’t loose- it’s like solid blocks that they nibble. I have that. And poison. And traps. And I heard from the landlord there are some glue traps under the eaves from years ago- but I can’t get up there to remove them.

Anyway- We had mice.

Had being the operative word.

And re: grain style poison- I’ve had it put down strategically- there are types that aren’t toxic to humans. I mean, you wouldn’t want your kid eating it but... won’t kill them if they by some very slight chance do eat it.

I’d get the professionals in.
