Noise noise everywhere

Aibu in thinking the world is just too loud lately?
Supermarkets with loud music and tannoy announcements every two minutes.
People shrieking and screaming on the street.
Mobile phone calls loudly on the train and extra loud adverts on tv.
I could not concentrate in town at all yesterday and had to go home due to shop music. Mind went blank.
I am really sensitive to noise and get anxiety due to it but everyone thinks I m over reacting.
So is the world getting louder and faster or am I aibu and getting old?

So glad so many agree with me! I m also going to add car alarms constantly going off for no reason and burglar alarms too. And speaker phone conversations. Just no. I don't want to hear you and your friend screeching and laughing and telling the whole world your little saga.Angry

Totally agree - all day long in my office people’s phones are pinging and the person next to me drives me mad with his music that I can hear even he wears earphones and his stupid buzzing fan.

Marks and Spencers re-introducing background music!
M and S are re-introducing background music, no doubt in a bid to reverse the fall in sales that they have been suffering of late.
It's not music that will draw the punters back in; it's decent clothes. Remember that horrible bright pink dress with the trumpet sleeves from summer 17? compare that to the chicissime linen blend shift dress what was on Mumsnetter July and Augst Mumsnetter Swears By? I could see women everywhere wearing that dress. When they get it it right it, it's so right, but when it's wrong , it's so awful.

Let us remember that music is a pleasure and not something to be endured. Write to M and S CEO at [email protected], and protest. Let's keep music a pleasure and therefore a choice

I know it sounds awful, but a part of me wishes my hearing would go.

I'm also autistic and I've had this exact same thought.

I grew up in the back of beyond and didn't have too many sensory difficulties until I went to uni in a city.
I'm now in my forties and it's ridiculous. Horrible shit pop music blasting everywhere, people's tinny headphones, traffic noise... My particular hate is the buskers, amplifiers ramped up to the max, that pollute the main pedestrian street of the city I live in. They absolutely ruin it. Fuckers.

My sympathies OP. The constant noise in everyday life gets me down. One thing that particularly gets me is people who are incapable of talking at a normal volume. At this moment I am sitting in my favourite coffee shop wishing that the 2 women on the next table would lower the volume. Despite sitting opposite each, barely 2 feet apart, they are finding it necessary to talk so loudly I can hear every word as can the entire shop probably. I don't bother going to the library any more because it seems to full of screaming, crying children,or mouthy teenagers. And don't get me started on people who play music or videos out loud on public transport,or in coffee shops and cafés.......

Heart FM was blaring out from somewhere in my neighbourhood at 11am. I was working nights. so was trying to get some sleep.

I put on my dressing gown and starting walking to find the source. Two roofers had switched on their van's radio. I reached in through the open window and switched it off. "I can hear it from two roads away. I'm working nights so shut up, shut up, shut up." I was fuming.

Never heard a peep after that.

What is wrong with these people?

Bitlost · 08/09/2018 18:24

Completely agree. I live in London and the best bit about my recent Cornish holiday was the lack of planes! Also escape to the New Forest a couple of times a year.

Am posting again since I can't see my previous post that I put up 2 days ago
MARKsS and SPENCER is bringing back background music! No doubt they think it will help their falling sales if the place becomes trendy again. It won't.
Please write to the CEO at [email protected]
