DP has a 27 year old son that lives with us as he is trying to start up a business...he has been doing this for 2 years and is having some success but nowhere near enough to live on. He completely refuses to even consider getting a job i have tried to talk to DP but...she is upset at ruining his dream. In effect we are working to finance his dream.

I really am at a loss...

He's 27 but doesn't work? Yes, you're being a mug. I've supported my sons too, but they've always worked.

Lol thought so...

Stop giving him money! He’s 27!

When i was 16 i got a weekend job while going to school Mon-Friday and had to pay 20 quid a week rent. Not much, it was more a token amount. But it thought me from a young age that you have to pay your way. Your partner is being unreasonable to expect you to financially support an adult.

At 27 he should definitely be paying a reasonable amount of rent.

He really should contribute something to the household. If it's still not earning him a living after 2years it's only ever going to be part time money. He needs a another part time job. Charge him the going rate for a room in a houseshare. That's what he'd be in of you weren't subsidising him.

27?! Ffs. Is your household seeing your benefit of any of his income? How long does your DP propose you keep supporting this grown man? Does she work? Has he ever had a proper job?

You’re being taken for a ride.

So he is working and earning but not enough yet?

Whenisitover · 21/08/2018 19:18

Sorry but yes you are

Anyone trying to start a business will struggle initially - but they should then take a part time job to cover bills or at least contribute!
Does he do much to help round the house? Cleaning/cooking/gardening etc as if not then double mug and he is a huge man child
