To think this is more than a coincidence!

Yesterday I set up a new payee with my online banking (for a colleague who I owed £4 to for lunch). I got a text message confirming this.

I was getting a bit fed up of these notifications so went into my online banking and noticed there was a tab to change my notifications. So I browsed through it and saw an option to change notification settings for when my address is changed. That's handy I thought, and turned the notification on. I also ordered a contactless card.

About an hour ago I was sat at my desk minding my own business when I receive a text message confirming a change of address. I haven't changed my address.

Rang my bank who put me through to the fraud team and yes, my address has been changed to an address in Glouceser. I am in South Wales.

What a bloody coincidence! Only yesterday I made those changes.

Some colleagues are suspecting it is a bank admin error but I can't see where they have plucked this address from.

Has anyone had this happen? I feel slightly violated!

Sifting through my emails I have found one from Ticketmaster (in junk folder) advising my data may have been breached. It's probably this isn't it?

What I cant understand though, is that when I tried to change my address online with my bank, it was difficult! I needed a bloody pin card reader and various passwords.

So how did this fraudster do it? I asked bank if I will find out how this happened and they said "probably not, it happens a lot".

Well I want to know!

All my cards have been cancelled now and my online banking deleted.

Have had to borrow money just for petrol!

If you worry about it too much you'll get totally paranoid.

It's dead easy to harvest people's details from unsecure networks.

Fraud happens all of the time- so long as your bank are dealing with it quickly and efficiently then I wouldn't worry any further.

Your bank won’t tell you how it happened or how they caught it.

How it happened as if you were a fraudster they would be confirming how to defraud them and how they caught it as again if you were a fraudster you would be in possession of the very information needed to circumvent their fraud checks.

It is a bit disconcerting, but be glad it was caught Flowers

Unfortunately card fraud happens all the time. The banks deal with it brilliantly and you always get any stolen money back. It's a major inconvenience that your card gets cancelled and you have to wait for a new one but realistically what else are they supposed to do?
