Sick of 2 litres of naice juice lasting less than a day and youngest DS's Petit Filous being eaten when there are plenty of lumpy Onkens available Angry. Blocks of cheese being eaten within hours. Massive packets of biscuits disappearing or being chucked in the cupboard without being sealed up!

AIBU to tell them all (16+) to sling their hooks?

In all seriousness the juice is really making me disproportionately angry. I have made it clear I buy the 'not from concentrate' stuff which is more expensive as they are supposed to have a small glass just with breakfast and for youngest DS as he shouldn't have to have the crap stuff, the same as they didn't at his age. Even when I resort to buying the massive cheap cartons of fruit 'drink', it'll still be gone in hours despite cordial always being available.

They also eat the kiddie yoghurts that I buy for DS, he won't eat the one with fruit puree or lumps, leaving him with none to eat despite nice Danone of Onken ones being available.

I can't lick the fridge or keep them anywhere else to stop the shit bags.

What to do?

Just buy the cheaper stuff and when it’s gone it’s gone. And why buy them posh yogurts if they like the petit filous?

IWantMyHatBack · 21/08/2018 14:59

"lumpy onkens"

😂🤢

DiscombobulatedDiane · 21/08/2018 14:59

Yes, but why should youngest DC be left with none lottie. Its not him taking it, he can't reach.

Lick the fridge 😂

You can get lockable fridges...
Do they pay towards the food? (rent)

DiscombobulatedDiane · 21/08/2018 15:03

Can't afford a new fridge. They're all studying full time so no rent.

I have thought about getting a chain to put round it with a massive padlock. Not workable in practice though.

If they eat what you’ve told them not to, then change the WiFi code for 48 hours. That will learn em!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 21/08/2018 15:03

Maybe something like this for the youngests stuff? fridge locker

Not ideal I know. Flowers

Bluelonerose · 21/08/2018 15:04

Open the yoghurt and lick them instead.
Might stop them Grin

TSSDNCOP · 21/08/2018 15:04

Get everyone petit filous

It’s the holidays; teens eat and sleep ‘twas ever so.

Grate the cheese and freeze it in portions to slow them down.

Don’t buy biscuits, or if you do decant them into a tin.

HollowTalk · 21/08/2018 15:04

You want to let them have it with both barrels! Three teenagers can empty a fridge in no time. You need to tell them they can't have anything unless they ask you. It's just not fair that you're trying to buy nice things and have something for everyone when they're emptying the fridge like that.

Bezm · 21/08/2018 15:05

I assume these are also your children? If they are 16+ They will need more food.
Cartons of fruit juice are no better for you than sugar free cordial. Actually, it's worse because its full of sugar! So don't buy it at all. Cordial or water only. If they like Petit filou, just buy that, or don't buy it at all so your youngest has to stop being so fussy!
Buy biscuits and put them in a tin as soon as you unpack, so they don't just get thrown in the cupboard. Once the treats are gone, they are gone. Teenagers can get throughout a tremendous amount of food!
Calling your children shit bags for eating food is very unreasonable!

DiscombobulatedDiane · 21/08/2018 15:07

You're a star Raptorina. Problem solved Flowers. Had no idea those kind of boxes existed!

Tell them they're cooking and shopping to a budget for the next week.

Mine are all this age except one and they only help themselves to fruit, oatcakes, toast, tea and coffee. They understand that the perks of being cooked for means you don't nick the ingredients.

MinaPaws · 21/08/2018 15:10

If it's not a money issue, just send them out immediately to restock the stuff they scoffed, even if it makes them late for sudden important meetups with friends. If you're on a budget, explain this, and tell them you need to know that stuff you bought for younger DS can't just be guzzled because then he misses out.

Generally, though, I think teens just eat and eat and eat, so if money isn't a problem, load up the fridge with healthy(ish) foods during the holidays and let them eat it.

HarshingMyMellow · 21/08/2018 15:10

Teenagers need more food, but the lack of consideration is completely out of order. They are showing you that they don't give a fuck about anyone else - so you do the same!
Maybe stash the smallest some nice treats too (biscuits, chocolate...)

Can you get a mini fridge for your room? Put the fresh juice, cheese, yoghurts etc in there.
Buy them cheap juice and shit biscuits (but put them in a tin). Once it's gone, it's gone.

DiscombobulatedDiane · 21/08/2018 15:14

I know they eat lots! There is always plenty of food available. This is just them being lazy dicks - sitting and eating 3 yoghurts in a row or a massive hunk of cheese and 5 slices of ham because they cba to make a sandwich, pouring a pint glass of juice, taking a line of biscuits instead of 3 or 4 etc.

I know juice has sugar in. They've been brought up to have nice cold glass of juice with breakfast, their brother shouldn't have to miss out because of them!

DiscombobulatedDiane · 21/08/2018 15:16

Cost is a factor due to the sheer amount of them but also its having to buy everything every bloody day!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 21/08/2018 15:18

Whenever they have a greed binge like that change the WiFi password and refuse to let them have it until what's in the fridge has been replaced. And if you need to get them out of bed early in the morning to buy something for your little one's lunch then do it.

FASH84 · 21/08/2018 15:19

Don't buy biscuits or juice, only buy petits filous type yoghurt (you can get bigger pots) and only have healthy food in, if they are hungry they will eat that

onetimeposter · 21/08/2018 15:21

Meh. Just get to aldi and buy a load of shite, they're back to school soon.
I gave in and bought shit loads of croissants and waffles and multipacks of crisps to keep them going. Back to the routine soon.
And the rule with decent stuff you want to it is to hide it and shove it to the back of the fridge behind a melon or something.

Sofabitch · 21/08/2018 15:23

I buy a set amount of food and when it's gone its gone. We have a shelf of stuff that's not to be touched without asking. But generally mine are considerate.

Just buy super cheap stuff. Smart price frontage frais you can buy 3x for the same price.

OutPinked · 21/08/2018 15:23

Start getting them cheaper yogurts and juice for them. If they have your DS’s again, stop buying them snacks and juice all together.

At their age they should have a weekend job and be contributing towards food anyway.

apriljune12 · 21/08/2018 15:25

Aldi all the way buy cheap and buy in bulk.

I had 4 teen boys and a toddler op I feel your pain Wink

Try hiding the nice stuff st the back of the fridge? In my experience they are too lazy to delve

apriljune12 · 21/08/2018 15:26

Does anyone take rent off a full time school kid or student who works one day a week?

Really?? Confused

InfiniteVariety · 21/08/2018 15:26

Raptorina I'm grateful for that link too as I also didn't know such a thing existed and would find it very useful!
