Been back from mat leave for a while, need a major work clothes re-vamp due to promotion (yippee), but the usual suspects (Zara, Next) seem to be full of frills, oddly fitting cuts, uncomfortable/tailored pieces. Where can I go for comfortable, smart looking work wear these days? And how can I put together a capsule type wardrobe so outfit choosing is easy each day? I am short but not enough for petite ranges. Not keen to start wearing heels again! Any outfit ideas/tips v v gratefully received!

Watching with interest, as I've had the same issue! I've ended up swapping to dresses mainly, as I've found it impossible to get nice tops!

Another one having the same issue. I've resorted to H&M and Mango to try and find appropriate clothing that fits. I'm not sure whats happened to me or Zara clothing but I've gone from being able to fit into their clothes, to being completely unwearable.

Agreed about Zara. Next doesn't suit me and the dresses and tops are too obviously from their current collection. What I want is to be able to blend in and always look smart and a bit stylish if possible, but more classic than fashionable, hence the capsule wardrobe idea.

H&M can be good but anything that is tailored I find not to be a great fit, or creases easily and ends up looking a bit cheap?!

Marks and Spencer have some lovely trousers/blouses . I used to think they were out dated but over the past few years they have really changed and the prices are so reasonable. Clothing washes so well and lasts for many seasons. I've recently gone from a uniformed job to a non uniformed job and required some grown up work clothing. I've bought these trousers in black and navy blue, the picture doesn't do them justice. They are elasticated at the back, helps at certain times of the month when you can expand a little ... also I've bought plain blouses to tuck in and I wear flats! Good luck x

Another voice in support of M&S. I think their trousers are great; smart and good quality, they wash really well. The Everywear range ankle grazers are my favourite. So comfy and flattering.
They also have a huge selection of shirts, tops and blouses, especially online.

Ooh good shout on M&S! These look lovely, casual but smart

Congrats on the promotion.

I am short too and partial to dresses. I think petite women have a harder time finding trousers that fit and even if they do, don't hang well or look so great with short legs.

Boden have a Petite range but I prefer the Regular range in size 6 works better for me as the Petite can be too short and the waist weirdly high. Stay away from their garish prints but they have some nicely cut dresses that work well in the office with a neutral jacket.

LK Bennett is my go-to brand but it is more pricey. I buy in the sales which is now.
