Baby weaning?

Here for traffic as last time I posted in weaning I was flamed for weaning too early.
She's 6m. So far had carrots, broccoli, sweet potato, butternut squash, sprouts, apple, banana. All blended in different combinations.
I have about 10 lots in freezer left.

We eat pretty much from scratch, occasionally or busy days it may be pizza, burger or whatever for easea

She will be eating what we do. However for our 'easy' days I want a back up for her.

Tonight I'm doing Bolognese for us so I intend to do her the same and blend it. And prob add it to a veg portion.

Just need some inspiration really as my mind is blank and It been a long time since I did it with my teen.

She's had a few finger foods, broccoli, rusk, and random bits of ours to taste ( even whipped a cake out of my hands once - didn't let her keep it tho lol)

It's just inspiration I need.

Also the tiny pasta stars or whatever, where can I get them?

She's six months don't blend it, they need lumps and solid food. I've come across so many of my mum friends who keep their little ones on puree to long then really struggle to get them to take normal food. From six months they can have just about anything as long as you are home cooking to keep salt content low. No uncooked eggs.

6m is the perfect time for introducing weaning!

The pasta stars you can get in Asda or Sainsbury's if you have those near by, I can't say I enjoyed using them though but that may just be my cooking lol.

You can do (BLW) this is where they can eat exactly the same as us in a finger food way other than having to purée it all.

When I weaned my now 1 year old if we was having say a take away I'd get in a few Ella's kitchen pouches, they do come in handy, however remember that until they are 1 they should still get their nutrition from their milk alone, any other foods are a bonus and a way for them to explore also BLW is great for their coordination skills.

For a quick meal when we are eating something baby-inappropriate or if dinner won't be ready on time, I oven cook a few fish fingers, then take off the breadcrumbs and give her the middle bit. The brand I use (aldi), all the salt and additives are in the breadcrumbs coating and the middle is just pure white fish. I'll serve that with some broccoli florets/frozen peas/frozen spinach/sweet potato/carrot steamed in the microwave in a little bowl while the fish cooks.

Inspirational foods;

•	Cooked sticks/slices/chunks of carrot, broccoli, sweet potato, potato, courgette, butternut squash, apple, etc.
•	Raw slices/chunks of banana, avocado, peaches, pears, melon, cucumber, etc.
•	Cooked rice
•	Citrus fruits and strawberries
•	Cooked pasta, with or without sauce
•	Cubes or fingers of bread/toast (watch out for this sticking to the roof of the mouth, if they cram a lot in)
•	Breadsticks (check for salt content)
•	Cheese – cut into sticks or grated
•	Pieces of cooked fish or meat
•	Yoghurt/fromage frais (check for sugar content)
•	Low-sugar/salt breakfast cereal
•	Chopped hard boiled egg
•	Cooked pulses
•	Quorn/tofu in moderation (as these are low-calorie and high-fibre foods, they can fill your baby up before they have consumed enough calories)

Foods to avoid before 1 year;

•	Honey
•	Salt
•	Shark, swordfish or marlin (due to high mercury levels)
•	Goats' and sheep's milk
•	Mould-ripened soft cheeses

You can ut tiny pasta shapes in Sainsbury’s, just their own brand stuff.

And a bit of blending is fine if it’s what works for you.

Thank you.. Will give all that a go. She gags a lot so always freaks me out.. Even the banana this morning she gagged then chucked up. That was in long slices iyswim.

I just gave my daughter exactly what I was eating from 6 months, no blending. I just cut any food that posed a choking hazard such as sausages in half. She is now 9 months and eats anything. Currently tucking into pancakes independently whilst I mumsnet. Best choice I ever made as she is a much more confident eater than my friends who purée feed and I’ve never had to faff with a blender or spoon feeding.

Don't use baby pasta it's stupidly expensive, look for soup pasta, same stuff 1/4 of the price! Rissottos, large pasta is great as finger food, Ella kitchen pork and beans recipe oh and the fish curry is lovely for everyone.

Yeah sorry I should of said. I wouldn't blend everything. But was thinking for things like mince etc with the Bolognese?

Ah ok. My daughter loves Bolognese but I do cut the veg a little smaller than I would normally as I found she gagged more if I didn’t. E.g. I quartered the carrot circles and cut the peppers to the size of my little finger nail. I also smooshed any beans I offered as this caused her problems too. DD loves sausage and mash, pasta, roast, omelette, eggs bread, sweet potato. Try not to worry about gagging (easier said than done) as it’s their way of learning and children also gag with purée too.

It's silly really as like I say I've done it all before with DS.. However I was young and let's say more lazy wren cooking so he had 50% jars.. As I did a lot of crap freezer food.
Now I don't unless dp works both his jobs back to back with an hour in between to do Something quick.
Tomorrow is one of them days. Doing sweet and sour with rice. All fresh veg etc but the sauce will be a jar.. So guess that be OK. Salt is low in it.

The Ella's Kitchen recipe books have a lot of recipes which are suitable for babies and often for adults too. The purple one is the first foods one.

I disagree with those saying a 6 month old should have lumps. When my daughter was 6 months she would be sick on anything which has lumps so we had to start really smooth and very gradually change the texture. I would definitely mash/blend chewy things like meat. But just try different things and see how she gets on, I'm sure you will quickly work out what size pieces are best etc.
