Did anyone else see the programme on tonight?
My local one which I go to quite a lot has some of the worst customer service I've ever seen. The store is a bit of a shambles, price labels missing or in the wrong place a lot so I wouldn't be surprised to hear if my local one went under although I'd be annoyed as I like the store overall.

Aibu to think maybe the underlying issue with it is also the stores themselves? If the staff were friendly and helpful it would make a huge difference and if the labels were correct the majority of the time then it wouldn't result in me guessing the price.
The ones on the programme seemed a lot better run admittedly. I hope the company doesn't go under.

The ch4 program has been a series.

Never been keen on the place. It's been around for decades but home bargains and especially b&m bargains just do it all so much better.

I'm allergic to poundstretcher Grin
Not in a snobby way...I get sneezy and itchy in supermarket cleaner aisles but my local poundstretcher is the worst, I have to leave after a few minutes.

But on a serious point...they do seem to sell a lot of different smelly things together...cleaning products, garden/pet stuff, very plasticky house stuff...probably makes people want to get out quickly!

My local one is a mess, it's also quite small and cluttered. Another one the other side of town is twice the size and is so much better you would not think it was the same chain.

The Home Bargains near me is even worse though - nothing in there that I would regard as a bargain. Poundstretcher I only use occasionally but it's good for cheap cleaning/household stuff like microfibre cloths, fairy non bio and one or two toiletry items like Plax mouthwash. They never seem to have many customers though and average spend is probably very low, so would not be particularly surprised if they went under.

I saw the programme too, my local one is huge, so must have quite high rent, but it’s always empty, the edible stuff is a weird mishmash of out of date tat, and with the pricing of everything I don’t see how they could breakeven nevermind make a profit.

My local one is the same OP. Grumpy, poorly trained staff and always boxes of stock lying all over the floor. And they are constantly changing the bloody layout too!! I only go in for butchers dog food now as they’re the only local place that does it and my dogs intestines are picky. Hmm

Oh and elbow grease! Only shop in town that sells elbow grease! Grin

Ours has a 50% off sale on now.

I just don't understand how they make money considering the costs of overheads.

My local one always reeks of bleach as you go in the door. The staff are absolutely lovely and friendly though.

I saw it last night and was flabbergasted at the people flocking in to bulk buy bottles of pop - I’m not joking, one of them bought a while trolley full. Where would they put it once they got home?!

Anyway- shops like that give me ‘container ship feeling’. You can literally smell the plastic and then imagine it all being created in dodgy factories and then packed in to these huge ships voyaging across the world from China and the like. Gives me the creeps.

Wonder what will happen to it if there is a hard brexit?
