Is Disney Land Paris worth a visit?

Daisydrum · 20/08/2018 20:44

I’ve got two DCs and we are looking for a holiday with DH and DM. I suggested Disney Land Paris as it’s quite close and we are big Disney fans. DH and DM both turned their nose up at the idea. I’d be interested to know what other people think? Thanks.

If I had to choose between Disney Paris and Portaventura, Portaventura would win every time.

And its close enough to Barcelona to do cultural stuff too. And the football stadium, which is great even if you aren't a football fan.

Ime, not at all. Our dd1 was nearly 4 and she did enjoy some of it, but the queues and walking tired her out. The weather was shit, there were policeman with guns which unnerved us alot, and the French were so, so rude. No offence to any French people here, I'm talking about the ones we met. I also have coeliac disease and was promised a gluten free option at meal times, didn't happen. I lived off of nutella sachets at breakfast and planet Hollywood dinners. Various other things happened which led to us complaining after we got home. We were offered a free, upgraded holiday. We refused.

Go to Puy du Fou instead. Genuinely spectacular, no queueing, great accommodation and a lot cheaper than Disney!

JacquesHammer · 21/08/2018 07:33

I love DLP both with and without children.

I’ve been several times and never encountered issues with queues, rude staff or over-priced anything really. Last time DD and I went we paid £500 all in, including flights.

Don’t go in school hols and at weekends!

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 09:29

Totally agree Jacques, we have only ever met lovely staff and people. Never noticed smoking either. No real queues if you use the fast passes properly, it just takes a bit of planning. We would choose the main big queue rides we wanted to go on and get the fast passes for them first. Never queued or missed out on anything.

Food is expensive I think, but no different than any other major city. Quite a few places in the disney village were normal prices for a city such as Planet Hollywood. The buffets are ok value too.

I don't get the people comparing it to Florida, DLP is just the magic kingdom part of disneyland. You don't go to Florida just for that, we spent about half a day in there when we went, spent the rest of the time at the other areas of the resort. It truly is fabulous, my DCs are now 10 and 12, their first time was 2 1/2 and 5 months. They always ask to go back and have enjoyed it in different ways at the various ages they have been.

It's rubbish compared to Florida (I've been there twice), and I've been to Paris once on a school trip.
Paris came first then Florida, so as soon as I got to Florida it was clear how much better it is there

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 09:58

but why compare it to Florida, no one has asked for that or suggested that it is the same. Florida is a big big holiday, not just a weekend break.

I don't think I'll bother with Weymouth beach next summer as for about £10k more if I save up I can go to Miami Beach Hmm

MillieMollieMandi · 21/08/2018 10:03

I can thoroughly recommend EuropaPark.
I've been a few times and found it so much better than Disney in every respect.
Really worth a trip.

PurpleFlower1983 · 21/08/2018 10:03

I’ve been to Disneyworld and Disneyland California a fair few times and although Disneyland Paris is a lot smaller there’s still a lot of fun to be had!

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 10:16

I have been to DL Florida twice. Still loved DLP. Some of the best rides from the other parks are there. I wish they had something like Epcot though, love Epcot. But yes it's worth going, going to take my kids again next year.

Youvegotafriendinme · 21/08/2018 10:25

We went in March and loved it so much we bought annual passes and have been lucky to have gone 3 more times since June. We had no expectations as we have been going to Florida yearly since 2005 but after going in 2016 and it being so busy and the staff not what they used to be and many other reasons we decided we would give it a miss. Paris isn’t Florida and if you go expecting it to be then you’ll be disappointed. The staff are fantastic, the main park itself is much prettier in places than Florida. Of course it’s not the same size but the convenience of being able to walk from the park to your hotel, not having to drive everywhere tops it for us.
I’d say go, make your own opinion. You never know, you may just like it Smile

He11y · 21/08/2018 10:39

@ZanyMobster

Exactly! They’re totally different holidays!

MondayTuesdayWednesday · 21/08/2018 11:34

Yes it is definitely worth a visit. Especially for younger kids.

Comparing it to Florida is just silly. Disneyworld in Florida is like visiting a load of different parks it is so big. This is just more compact and smaller but still a great experience.

Also suggesting other non Disney parks isn't exactly helpful. People want to go to Disney because it is Disney and because of the characters.

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 12:45

Monday - I still want to go to Disney because of the characters and in nearly 40 Grin

I love theme parks with huge rides so go to them too but Disney is, well Disney!!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 21/08/2018 13:13

We all love it. We’ve been at least six times over the last 20 years. It’s easy to get to and we all have a great time so will be going again soon.

Florida just doesn’t appeal to us though..

HettieBettie · 21/08/2018 13:17

DD4 loved it - I thoroughly encourage people expecting dc 2 to go as you get a pregnancy pass so you don’t have to wait in line and can have your dc1 with you e.g didn’t have to queue for princesses or rides. 👍 we loved it x

Swishswish26 · 21/08/2018 13:26

It is definitely not comparable to Disneyworld in Florida at all but we went to Disneyland Paris for 4 nights when our children were 7 and 3 and they loved it. Staying onsite was brilliant as only a ten min walk to the parks and obviously a lot cheaper than Florida. Having said that we have just got back from 2 weeks in Disneyworld Florida and would rather save up and go there again. The staff in Disney Paris (in particular the waiters) were not a patch on the staff in Florida and a lot were very grumpy and abrupt!
