She's not that girly but does like nice products, and especially nice jewellery. She's into books, a bit of a nerd.

I don't have a huge budget. Couldn't find anything in clothes shops..
Any idea?

Amazon gift card/voucher.

Puddlejumps · 20/08/2018 20:12

Body shop shower gels and a Waterstones voucher? Body shop always has offers on. Not sure where you are but John Lewis also does some nice reasonably priced chunky jewellery, around £10-15 per item. Tkmaxx is also worth a look for reasonably priced items. Failing all that what about a handmade card about what makes her a fab mum and some flowers 😁👍🏽

Kneesbendarmstretchrarara · 20/08/2018 20:16

Bloom&Wild flowers are beautiful. They do a 3 month subscription as well as one-offs. I go through Topcashback/NotOnTheHighStreet.

They are a small company that really do deliver a great service with great communications. I had to chanhe the delivery address and their responses were always prompt and polite.

Or get some strips of paper all the same size & write a sentence on each one something you like/love about her, put them in a nicely decorated jar.

Bimgy85 · 20/08/2018 20:20

Thanks. The flowers and sentences sound lovely, I'll try to reduce my cringe ness! BlushGrin

I’m 45 & love reading. Bodyshop gifts are for people you don’t know well. I’d be offended!! I’d like a book token (Amazon), nice candle, thoughtful card or keepsake.

Lim3Trousers · 20/08/2018 20:24

Depending on how close together you live. What about a day out together somewhere eg spa, zoo, National Trust, seaside, city, concert, theatre, pay for travel and entry. You could organise your own or look on Virgin Experiences or similar

Spreadingcudweed · 20/08/2018 20:25

Does she have a favourite childhood book of which she no longer has a copy?

If so, can recommend this second hand book search company. Prices are pretty reasonable for what they do; only downside is that they (understandably) can't predict how long it will take to find something!

DroningOn · 20/08/2018 20:26

Mahabis, best prezzie ever. Little bit special, feel great, practical.

mamaduckbone · 20/08/2018 20:28

You are describing me!
I’d very much appreciate a book token / book that you know I want to read, a voucher for a massage, a lovely scented candle, some special body lotion or really posh chocolate! Thank you!

FlyingMonkeys · 20/08/2018 20:31

Spa day on Groupon (not extortionate), book from favourite author (write an inscription), lovely hair products, favourite perfume, voucher for manicure or haircut, basket of special little bits and bobs, picnic in a park, fake festival tickets, high tea afternoon, craft event (make own xyz), cinema and supper. I would truly love any of the above as a gift.

crosstalk · 20/08/2018 20:34

OP what sort of books does she like? do you know? Or would she like her eyebrows/lashes done (£16 round here) or a facial? I also think film/theatre/music - with you, or vouchers - or just a lovely day out.

Bimgy85 · 21/08/2018 12:45

Think il be going for the spa or the amazon voucher Smile didn't even think of the voucher!

I'm the same age and not girly.

An Amazon voucher would be a winner of you can't find a book you know she would like. I actually find someone finding an interesting book I can read really impressive.

Someone gave me a spa day voucher once and I gave it away to someone who I knew would use it on her birthday - she knew it was a regift.

I would hate a scented candle. I rather have a bottle of wine or whatever alcohol.

Theatre or cinema tickets are another winner.

Nannyplumshairstyle · 21/08/2018 13:01

Hotel Chocolat chocolates, lovely waitrose flowers, afternoon tea somewhere nice. :)
NOT a trowel last present I got!

vivalafrida · 21/08/2018 13:16

I'm a 44 year old mum, and here's my birthday list, depending on budget:

A Neom scented candle.
A Nars multiple in 'Orgasm'.
A silver stacking bracelet from ChloBo or Bella Jane.
A Nails Inc nail polish in a nice dark colour.
Some nice jammies.
Chocolate. Preferably Willie's Cacao or Green and Black's.
A National Book Token.
Some gardening vouchers.
Some Nuxe facial oil or bath stuff.
Some herbs, maybe in a pot.
A lovely big bunch of flowers.

vivalafrida · 21/08/2018 13:18

A bottle of decent gin - Sipsmith or Hendrick's, for preference.
A bottle of champagne. Not bloody prosecco.
Bedsocks.
Fancy notebooks. Paperblanks do lovely ones.

Is she a spa person? I'm 49 tomorrow and I'd hate a spa voucher. Also a massive geek.

Lush have some lovely stuff. Amazon vouchers always goes down well, as does booze and chocs.

Purpleartichoke · 21/08/2018 13:38

Very nerdy 44 year old here. Small Gifts I have loved recently

Small box of good chocolates
Funko pop of elastigirl
Money to buy a book for my kindle
R2d2 measuring cups

BikeRunSki · 21/08/2018 13:41

If she’s not girly, would she appreciate a spa voucher? I’d hate it!

Coconutcake0 · 21/08/2018 15:39

Im 43 and a mum but an Amazon voucher would not go down well. Just shows a huge lack of thought.

How about a local shop that sells homemade necklaces or bracelets?

hellsbellsmelons · 21/08/2018 16:11

Best thing my DD every bought me was a Kindle.
So it depends on budget and if your DM already has one or not.
I needed the Kindle White as I read a lot in the sun.
Looking on Amazon though the cheapest I can see is £60.
Wow - my DD paid about £40.

oldbirdy · 21/08/2018 16:26

Is it your mum? A voucher is very impersonal, I'd be gutted.

Not on the High Street , getting personal, and similar online places do loads of more personal gifts, including ones just for mums.

mejon · 21/08/2018 16:37

I'm not 'girly' either (nor am I 43 - that birthday's long since gone Grin) and I'd hate a spa day. Not too keen on an Amazon voucher either though the one I had for my 50th did pay for my holiday Birkenstocks! If she likes nice jewellery I'd be looking at Etsy for something a little bit different.

Bimgy85 · 21/08/2018 16:51

I got the amazon voucher. It's not a huge birthday and we often do gifts such as money/vouchers. I'm also taking her out for a meal so voucher should be fine.
