To wonder how the fluffing hell you can 'fall off' a cruise ship?!

I mean HOW? Just HOW?

I am an average height (5 ft 4ish) and the rail was up to my chest when me and DH went on a cruise ship 3 years ago. It was like this on the attached pic.

She was shit fucking lucky.

Don’t think I would have survived in the water for an hour, let alone ten.

I think the panic alone would have seen me drowning. That and fear of being eaten by a shark.

Terrifying.

Lucky lucky lady.

MarthasGinYard · 20/08/2018 23:17

I wonder if her fellow crew members will start to worry about her opening exits and shooting down slides....

tapdancingmum · 20/08/2018 23:27

I have ads for ferry crossings 😂

I admit to finding it all a bit odd. The truth will probably come out in the wash!

leccybill · 21/08/2018 00:07

Are thereally sharks in the Adriatic?
There's def dolphins as we saw some, we were in Pula last week.

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 07:53

@SirGawain - these were on the top cruise liners, we don't do the Thompson style ones or anything, honestly it was ridiculous. This one family who were wasted every day and night, ffing and blinding everywhere incl kids, bombing in the pool then reserved their sunbeds whilst going into a port, came back then started on the people who were sat on their beds (they had no clue as the waiters had removed the atuff hours before).

The wedding party was different, even the richest/poshest people have affairs surely.

We do go on many cruises and it's not on every cruise. These incidents are spread out over 15 years and not all on one cruise. They are also very strict on teens behaviour and will remove families because of that also.

Don't forget you won't necessarily see the incidents as the ship's are huge, the passengers just leave at the next port with their luggage (as do some crew, entertainers etc) so it's not like it's some big announcement. I bet there are many incidents we haven't seen or heard about.

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 07:58

@SirGawain actually thinking about it, probably all those incidents have been in recent years, all the cruise liners do such cheap school holiday deals, plus AI drinks on RCI and Celebrity. Also Caribbean cruises seem to attract a different clientele as they are cheaper than cruises such as the baltics etc. Don't want to be accused of being a snob as that's not the case but it is definitely only on the school holiday cruises, never the ones we've done in term time.

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 08:05

I was on a cruise where someone died. There was a ship wide announcement of "Bright Star, Bright Star" followed by a location, which was one of the restaurants, presumably this was medical staff. We happened to be near by in Guest Services and the restaurant was cleared and the whole area cordoned off with screens. The person was removed on a stretcher covered in sheets and the screens taken down, doors re-opened and it was though it never happened. About ten minutes later there was another ship wide announcement asking for a certain family to contact guest services immediately. I thought that was so sad that they'd obviously been elsewhere and heard that announcement never knowing it was their family member. Definitely a morgue on board as we didn't stop. We carried on to our destination which was two days away as there was a sea day in between. Was the end of the cruise at that point.

ShatnersWig · 21/08/2018 08:09

She's removed her Facebook page, or a member of her family has.

Her father has made some interesting comments overnight, too.

Those of us who immediately thought "fell my arse" are looking even more likely to be correct.

WellThisIsShit · 21/08/2018 08:18

Humm, if she tried to commit suicide some of these comments feel pretty harsh.

Nothing like some public rejection to show someone with a mental illness they really aren’t wanted on this earth. Whatever kind of woman she is, I don’t think that’s the right way to treat people.

SerenDippitty · 21/08/2018 08:19

@ZanyMobster I agree. We did our first (Med) cruise in 2001 on the Oriana in school holiday time and it was very civilised in comparison with the later ones we did. Definitely a different sort of clientele now.

apriljune12 · 21/08/2018 08:20

Titanic obviously.

Biologifemini · 21/08/2018 08:23

She clearly is going to get character assassinated in the daily mail over this.
If she was pissed she is ridiculous but it sounds like her mental health is a bit fragile.
Hopefully she can move on and never gets a cruise again.

actualpuffins · 21/08/2018 08:29

The press are reporting today that she had a drunken row with her boyfriend and jumped off.

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 09:02

@HollyGibney yes they definitely have a morgue, apparently it gets pretty full on a world cruise, the average age is pretty high on the longer cruises.

My mum and dad went on a cruise and one of the people on their shared table for dinner passed away during the cruise, after a couple of nights the family went down to dinner for the rest of the cruise without him Shock To be honest not sure what else you could do, he was their elderly parent and had a heart attack bless him .

apriljune12 · 21/08/2018 09:04

God I assumed they bueried people at sea???

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 09:08

No they definitely don't, I know it's really morbid but I kind of imagine they just pile them off once they get back to the original port,or do they take them off at the next port and the family have to fly them home?

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 09:23

I should think relatives must have a choice and I imagine it must be easier for it to done at the end of the cruise in familiar ports.

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 09:27

Apparently the ship passed her a few times. Maybe she saw that so knew they were looking for her and that's what kept her going for ten hours.

I can see how a certain type of person might back themselves into a corner with threats to jump and if they're feeling a bit pissed and are already very fragile I can see how this could happen.

Bloobs · 21/08/2018 09:36

There are sharks there. And it is a danger when you're in open water - it's true that the chances of being killed by a shark are extremely low, but one situation where it does happen is shipwrecks and disasters where people are in the water.

Because I know this, I would have been cacking myself throughout, and probably exhausted myself through sheer terror!

thenightsky · 21/08/2018 09:38

jumped whilst pissed apparently

MarthasGinYard · 21/08/2018 09:42

So was it a "Jack I'm flying" gone wrong I wonder?

LeftRightCentre · 21/08/2018 09:43

Yeah, it appears to be a classic case of drank all evening, rowed with boyfriend and jumped whilst pissed.

On the other hand, that looks a fab cruise. I'm researching today for potential. Yay, cruising! My kids just gave me a lovely extension lead/power source designed to use on cruise ships. I'm easy to shop for, everyone buys me stuff for travel and cruising.

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 09:49

Oh I love cruises. Done four so including two Transatlantic, such an amazing feeling crossing the Atlantic, sat on your balcony ocean and sunrise/sunset as far as the eye can see.

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 09:50

@LeftRightCentre which cruise lines have you sailed with and do you have a favourite? 🚢. The cruise board isn't very busy on here 😔

ZanyMobster · 21/08/2018 10:10

I loved the transatlantic I did, I just love looking out and only seeing ocean forever!
