To the think the driving test is so hard for young people

I learnt to drive over 30 years ago boy how things have changed. DS 18 has just failed his theory for the 3rd time, missing out by 2 points. Can't help thinking that that is has almost become yet another why for the Government to generate revenue. One of the questions was what is the speed of a mobility Scooter, whaf. He is great driver and really needs to pass so he can get to work, we live in a rural area with no public transport, so very frustrating

Ignore all the idiots showing off about how easily they passed

Noone is saying its easy. Everyone who passed first time spent a chunk of time revising.

I passed The fifth timeSad

I don't think the theory test is too hard, but the practical test should be harder, and you should have to take it more than once in your life. A second time if you want to drive a Chelsea tractor, again if you are banned for whatever reason, for example.

My DS passed earlier this year, first time. He found it easy but he did practice with the app. The key is practice.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 20/08/2018 20:14

I failed 4 times before passing 2 years ago.

It's right to be tough as others have said. You need to be prepared to that standard to cope with the idiots out there.

The AA theory test book is really fantastic and helped my DC pass first time. The exact same questions came up on the test as in the book basically word for word. Couldn't recommend it enough

The theory test is really not hard - but they do need to study for it. My ds and all of his friends passed first time.

I am glad that both elements of the test require better knowledge and skills than they used to. When I passed my test in the early 90s, I can't say I could drive well or knew anything about what was under the bonnet. I guessed all of my highway code questions, and it was mostly luck that I passed.

I bought the official DVLA DVD for £4.99 and did it on the laptop. It also let me practise the observation part which was what I was most worried about.

I've passed my theory a couple of times and then it lapsed. I failed my theory once when I didn't study.

The practical test is hard. I can't come to terms with driving. I am anxious and panicked by it. It's just not for some and I am glad the rest is hard to keep people like me off the road. Just being honest.

MrsImsy1 · 20/08/2018 21:08

There is a great official app available that teaches you all of the required knowledge and has over 1500 test questions which includes every question that may appear in the theory test.

If he puts in the time and effort and is thorough he will be able to pass, it's not difficult if you've prepared thoroughly and can manage your nerves.
