To think Amazon are being stupid?

Just told off by an Amazon Help line person for telling him their return policy was stupid.

My kids fire tablet isn't charging well. I bought it on my amazon account (and am still paying for it) and wanted to order a repair under the warranty.

to stop the kids accessing my bank account, I have another amazon account that I then register the tablet under.

Amazon are insisting that I have to log into their account to order the repair.

Why? I bought it, i'm paying for it, the warranty is in my name and surely under the Sale of Goods Act they should be able to deal with the repair through the Account I bought it with?

Can you not just change the account that it's registered to back to yours?

Well, I expect the Amazon helpline person is just doing their job and following the rules and doesn't appreciate being held responsible for something they have no power over. It may be a stupid policy or it may not, but telling the helpline isn't really appropriate is it?

I think you have set up the tablet incorrectly! If you enable the kids account on it they can't access your credit cards anyway.... Then you have full control on what they download.

WRT the policy - Amazon are correct. In my situation MIL bought the kindle, she lives miles away. It is registered to my account with kindle for kids activated. When it broke I sorted out the replacement, sent it back, received the new one. It would have been a nightmare if MIL had to do it.

Ive has the same problem. We just logged in to the amazon account we set up and got them to ring us. They made me put my debit card details in and sent us a replacement. I then took my card details off the account once they confirmed they had the broken one back. It's a pita and I was not happy that they wouldn't sort it directly especially as the kindle was showing in my orders. Also they didn't send me a new kindle they sent a reconditioned one Angry

Omg it's not amazon that's stupid.

You have set the tablet to a different account.

This reminded me of the time I wanted to upgrade my 3 phone package. The customer service woman said I couldn't change to a more expensive package as I was in contract (for a less expensive one, also with 3-mobile). I said that was stupid and she told me not to call her stupid. I explained that I meant a policy of holding me to a less expensive tariff, when I was happy to pay for an extra twenty quid or so for a better one, was stupid.

Her response was - "I work for 3. When you call 3 stupid you are calling me stupid"

As they say - you cant argue with that!

meadow, my point is, it shouldn't matter what account the tablet is registered to, its the legal property of the person who bought it, and I ought to be able to raise a repair as the purchaser.

No, that's daft as another poster pointed out. If I bought a tablet and sent it to someone in Australia and they then registered it to their account, why the fuck would it be up to me to raise a repair for it? The fact it's your kids isn't anything to do with it, how can Amazon be expected to distinguish that?

Squidgee · 20/08/2018 12:11

i'm not saying the person its registered to shouldn't be able to, i'm saying as I bought it, and am actually still paying for it, I ought to be able to do it too!

It's so obvious that it hardly needs explanation.

Because you bought the item, the purchase contract is between you and Amazon.

It's not Amazon's problem if you give the item to someone else.
