Boys in the same bed

dustiseverywhere · 20/08/2018 08:49

I need to change DS9's bunk beds, I can't put the sheets on for either top or bottom bunk (bank and leg issues) and he never uses the top bunk.

I'm thinking about getting a double. There is room.

However, will boys on sleepovers here want to sleep in the same double bed as another boy? If not. At what sort of age does this stop? The girls I know are happy to do this, but I don't know any older boys to ask.

The alternative is a trundle bed.

So - is it ok to put boys in the same bed, and if not, what sort of age will they say that's not ok?

I wouldn’t, tbh.

It’s one of those things I don’t have a problem with personally, but I’ll be honest, I think if it got out at school it would lead to some bullying.

Hi,

Some suggestions:

sleeping bags, sleep on the sofa, top and tail, one sleeps on a mattress, inflatable bed; sofa-bed [...]

Boys go through a brief Homo phase

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK Hmm

Livinglavidal0ca · 20/08/2018 09:49

When I was a teenager (3 years ago) even in early teens at mixed sleepovers we’d all fight over who got the bed and who had the floor, usually ended up with about 6 of us in a bed. Boys and girls. All the boys I know would share a double bed, but maybe between 9-13 it’s weird then when you’re 14 and out late or 15 and sneaking a beer or whatever you just stop caring and bunk in together.

Ignoramusgiganticus · 20/08/2018 09:49

My kids have double beds. Ds doesn't want to share with friends so they have a mattress on the floor.

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 20/08/2018 09:49

Seperate sleeping bags on a double considered ok by dcs teenage friends.

ChellySmuff · 20/08/2018 09:55

My ds is 13 and when his friends sleep over they sleep in his double bed. Why is it weird?

ReservoirDogs · 20/08/2018 09:55

If what got out at school? To cause bullying?

My son's friends all thought he was cool because he had a double bed and they only had singles! And no one cared about sleeping in the bed together. And didn't have "a brief Homo" phase! WTAF?

idonthaveatattoo · 20/08/2018 09:59

I misunderstood I think, sorry. Thought two boys were sharing and OP was suggesting putting them both in a double. Sorry, OP!

Get the best bed for your son who will be sleeping in it daily. Sleepovers are a fairly minor consideration in comparison.

IKEA has a futon that folds up into the size of a chair, when opened it's like a single bed. Something like that has a dual function not just a bit of furniture you have to put up in storage.

stayathomer · 20/08/2018 10:05

I never liked sharing a bed and while I think some kids would find it fun, others mightn't. I'd agree with get whatever you think-double/single and sleepovers can be covered with a spare matress or something

Juells · 20/08/2018 10:12

HRTFT but I'd stick with the bunk beds ('cos I'm lazy and tight) but buy a washable sleeping bag. When there's a sleepover I'd provide the sleeping bag and a pillow.

MumW · 20/08/2018 10:16

We have airbeds for use on sleepovers.
Whenever possible, especially if there is more than 1 extra, we ask the kids to bring their quilt and pillow. That way I only have an extra sheet(s) to wash.

Racecardriver · 20/08/2018 10:18

John lewis selle a single bed with a second pop up single bed than goes underneath it.

Godowneasy · 20/08/2018 10:18

Boys go through a brief Homo phase so I would ALWAYS go for the sleep apart option.
Unless you are a 'gender neutral everything is cool type' in which case why are you asking ?

WTF!!! (hmm)

FatCow2018 · 20/08/2018 10:21

decentchap What the actual fuck?!

HostessTrolley · 20/08/2018 10:25

Haha my daughter (who has a double bed) had a party with a load staying over due to location. She ended up on the sofa as 4 boys (16-17) were in her bed

AnnieAnoniMoose · 20/08/2018 10:28

I’ve never known boys to care anymore than girls...as long as there are games or maybe movies and a suitable amount of crap to eat, where they finally crash doesn’t seem to bother them at all 🙅🏻‍♀️

I’d save the money and get DS to put the sheet on, it’s hardly child labour 😂

Phillipa12 · 20/08/2018 10:40

My 9 year old has a double bed, he also has a memory foam filled futon mattress under his bed specifically for sleepovers.

TheChatsPyjamas · 20/08/2018 16:44

I'd get something like this that can be a double (king size) if you need it for adult guests but can also be completely separate beds for sleepovers. www.noaandnani.co.uk/day-beds-c4/elsa-day-bed-with-trundle-pull-out-underbed-white-p682 - this one has wheels on the bottom when the legs are folded so you should be able to get it out without hurting your back.
