For cutting short the holiday and taking the baby home

Just come on holiday to Devon staying in one of those little lodge things with DH DS (6) DD(3) and DD 11 weeks. DD(3) has just started with D&V terrified he baby is going to get it as lodge is small and cramped should I take the baby to a hotel? Go home? Am I over reacting? Fuck fuck fuck I feel terrible for thinking this and abandoning DD butreally worried about the baby -

Are you breast feeding?

Cheby · 19/08/2018 21:58

Babies get d&v. It’s not fun, but it’s not the worst thing ever. My DD got it (at the same time as me) around 4 months old. I was bf, she bounced back much faster than I did. Infant feeding people said she was getting my antibodies as I was fighting the infection which helped her get better faster.

I can’t imagine leaving my older child when they were poorly...it’s not ideal but it’s one of the realities of having older siblings in the family.

I hope you all stay well though. Lots of hand washing and cleaning of surfaces.

Urbanbeetler · 19/08/2018 21:58

Not meant to be a judgemental question! Just that if you are, and wash hands carefully between cuddling/dealing with poorly child and handling baby, it should be ok.

georgie262 · 19/08/2018 22:00

No I was going to end the message with I’m not breastfeeding but then thought I’d have to explain why I was saying it. This is becoming a little family regular thing we all got d&v two years ago on holiday too.

Have DH look after DD3 and you look after DS and the baby. Try to stay separate and instill some really stringent rules on hand washing, etc.

I don't think the baby is any more likely to catch the bug in the lodge as at home. Can you take DS and the baby out for fresh air as much as possible?

Urbanbeetler · 19/08/2018 22:03

You don’t have to explain anything - you have every right to feed your baby any way which suits you best.

How does your dh feel - does he think you should take baby home?

youarenotkiddingme · 19/08/2018 22:07

Thin is baby is exposed now and if she will catch it she'll get it wherever you are.

It is such a worry. But do what you've always done re hygiene, wipe all handles etc after dD touches them.

If you are using bottles and have sterilising tablets or solution with you use that for cleaning too!

OutPinked · 19/08/2018 22:12

I wouldn’t risk it with a baby so young. My DS had it at eleven months and we ended up in A&E as he became severely dehydrated, it was horrific. I would definitely keep the two separate.

Hope your DD feels better soon though.

georgie262 · 19/08/2018 22:36

Thanks all just quickly cleaned the toilets and door handles - no mop or bucket in the lodge unfortunately and I wasn’t especially happy with the cleanliness when I arrived. DH sleeping on sofa bed with DD3 bless her heart who looks so pale. We were all really looking forward to this holiday and we only arrived yesterday 😩

Oh how miserable for you. If the kids stay away from the baby and you go crazy with the hand washing, hopefully you’ll be ok? What a shame, I hope it passes quickly and you get to enjoy some of your holiday.

SteakSandwich · 19/08/2018 22:45

This happened to us when my DS was the same age. It's not much fun if you're at home or on holiday. Try to sleep in relays with your DH and just do whatever you have to. I remember getting up at 3am with 5 month old DS, flicking through channels and then settling on a cheesy 90s music programme as it was the only thing that seemed to distract him.

The chances are you'll all be fine, but do check the signs for dehydration in case it's more severe than a dose of the skitters.

georgie262 · 20/08/2018 08:35

So DD is much better this morning think she only vomited for a couple of hours. We’ll keep her inside the next couple of days and keep our fingers crossed. I did wonder if it could have been something she’d eaten but the only thing she ate differently to everyone else was a sausage from the chippy.

Could be the sausage wasn't cooked properly.

Anonymumm · 20/08/2018 09:20

Could very well be food poising, however, if not then DD3 will potentially have already been exposed to the virus anyway. Hopefully that's it run its course now, I hope you all manage to enjoy the rest of your holiday.
I wouldn't keep DD inside the next couple of days, I'd let her get some fresh air, if she's up to it.
Enjoy the rest of your hols.
