To be really pissed off (on holiday) ...

We r in an apartment in Spain (self catering apartments). DCs in bed. Took my wine and sat out on balcony (ground floor). Noisy neighbours screaming, shouting. Neighbours kids (age about 5 and 7) come over and say hello. I say hello back, but not overly friendly, point them in direction of their mum. It's too noisy so I go in to my apartment. Neighbours children (Spanish, nit known to me) walk in (to my apartment), start playing with my kids toys, pick up my DHs clothes and throw on floor and make themselves at home. I indicate to them to go back to their mum and dad. This goes on a while until eventually they go.

DH is currently out getting a few things at supermarket. I want to sit on balcony, but feel trapped in the lounge with door shut as it's soooo noisy next door and kids trying to comeback in!!

I'm getting a bit tipsy so I suppose I don't care that much! Plus I'm on holiday so trying not to be too bothered!

But AIBU to think while it's great to have fun on holiday, you should at least be a bit considerate of neighbours, and not let your kids wander into other people's apartments??

Why the fuck are they able to come in.

NewYearNewMe18 · 19/08/2018 20:54

Why is the door unlocked ?

PlainVanilla · 19/08/2018 20:55

If you voted Brexit, please stay at home.
You clearly have no idea about the lovely life you can have in Europe.

Itschristmas32 · 19/08/2018 20:57

Well we had the back door (french windows type thing) open that leads to balcony (ground floor), so we could sit out and admire gorgeous view! and I fancied sitting there with my wine while waiting for DH to get back and join me! But now I'm stuck inside with door shut otherwise they'll come back in!!!

PlainVanilla what the fuck does that have to do with the thread? 😂😂😂😂

SmellMyBeads · 19/08/2018 21:00

Kick them?

Beautifulblue · 19/08/2018 21:02

Just got your DC in bed - sit down with a glass of wine to relax & more DC not even biologically connected to you show up. Stuff of nightmares - YANBU. Tell them (if they speak English?) your DC are in bed & they'll wake them up so they have to go & play at their house!

GlassSuppers · 19/08/2018 21:03

OP it's time to pull up your big girl pants and be a bit rude.

Usher them out with a stern NO.

Do their parents know they're doing this?? I'd be mortified if mine went into someone else's apartment and made themselves at home Shock

Singlenotsingle · 19/08/2018 21:03

plain vanilla you are being sarcastic, right!?

pilates · 19/08/2018 21:04

PlainVanilla has obviously posted on the wrong thread.

SillySallySingsSongs · 19/08/2018 21:04

You clearly have no idea about the lovely life you can have in Europe.

WTF has that got to do with both wanting random DC walking in and playing with your DC toys?

CherryPavlova · 19/08/2018 21:05

Assumedly they have to walk past you to get in? Find your inner dragon and tell them no very firmly.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 19/08/2018 21:05

See my thread in camping about the lovely but noisy Spanish. Can't you lock the kids out?

letsdolunch321 · 19/08/2018 21:07

Little fuckers, tell them to fuck off you are on your holidays Grin

Fatbelliedgirl · 19/08/2018 21:07

Tell them firmly to go away.

TheFairyCaravan · 19/08/2018 21:09

PlainVanilla are you quite well? I’m sure you can have a very lovely life anywhere without having to have random kids inviting themselves into your living space willy nilly.

That would piss me off too, Christmas. Can you put the patio furniture right in front of the open door?

Itschristmas32 · 19/08/2018 21:11

Well CherryPavlova - I'd actually gone in to get myself a bit more wine, when they came in! So they walked right up to balcony, through balcony, into the lounge and up to me (I was at back of lounge - in the kitchenette thing!) !!! All very confidently!!! Said hello! Then proceed to walk about the lounge playing with my children's things and throwing my DHs stuff about!!!! (My DC simply would never have the guts (thank fully!!) to go into a random strangers apartment and play with their stuff!!!) Mad!!!

Looks it's perfectly OK to smile at children, tell them it's time to go home and usher them out the room, to their parents, smile and say here you go, found them at ours. And go back to your balcony. If the children come over again usher them back.

It could be that they family in the room before you had kids the same age and were happy for them all to go back and forth.

Also just let the noise be a part of the holiday background. You never know you may really like them too. A chance to meet someone new.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/08/2018 21:12

Yes, Spaniards are known for being loud and operating on a different time zone to Brits.

Firmly tell them to go away. Something like No, adios, a luega, Manana, will probably get the message across, although someone who speaks more than pigeon Spanish will probably be able to come up with an actual coherent sentence.

happypoobum · 19/08/2018 21:12

Is there nothing to divide your outside space from theirs? Like a fucking great big wall?

You will have to speak to the parents sadly - or ask if you can be moved if you didn't book that specific apartment privately.

hidinginthenightgarden · 19/08/2018 21:12

WOW! I thought that there were limitations to how far Brexit could be spread across Mumsnet. Apparently there are none! FFS.

OP. Tell them to go away!

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/08/2018 21:14

9, or even 10 pm is incredibly early in Spain for DCs to be in bed, they're probably just thinking about going out for dinner.

FiestaThenSiesta · 19/08/2018 21:14

“Shoo” and motioning with hand is universal for get the fuck out.

Teacherlikemisstrunchball · 19/08/2018 21:16

We stayed in an apartment in a hotel complex in Spain and I have never known noise like it. I couldn’t relax, kids running around screaming all evening, and just loads of people who live life at 20 decibels louder than us. Once kids in bed, we sit quietly watching telly/chatting/reading books/listening to music. We are very boring on holiday Grin

gabsdot · 19/08/2018 21:17

I think in this case you should shout at them. Give them a mild fright which will discourage them from coming in again.
