To think this is a total scam

Today I scrutinised my mobile bill to discover that since June 2017 I have been billed £2.50 per week by EE fo services to a third party- Bouncegames.

Firstly I would like to stress I have never subscribed to this- I can't hand on heart promise my kids didn't click on a link but they rarely get access to my phone and June 7th 2017 was a work day/School Day so exceedingly unlikely.

I have once a month got an annoying text which came from Bouncegames it reads "U r subscribed to Bouncegames enjoy 24 hrs free (link) then pay £2.50/week. Text STOP to.....".

Initially I thought it a scam so deleted the messages and anyhow it reads it's "free" and then you get charged if you click the link. The messages got a bit annoying so I did text STOP (for 10p) but they kept coming.

So today I phoned up EE mightily pissed off and they said they couldn't help apparently it's in my "terms and conditions".

So AIBU at this total scam?
Surely the mobile phone companies should be doing more to protect their customers? I am willing to bet they take a cut of the profit from this immoral practice.

Anyone had success in getting money back off these crooks?

My DH an dd were both caught out with this. You don’t have to click on a link to subscribe. If you watch videos on Facebook or YouTube sometimes it automatically subscribes you. What you do is google the company and get their email address. Email them saying you did not subscribe and do not authorise them to take any payment from you (mobile number) and to delete any contact details they have for you and unsubscribe you and refund any payment taken. I have done this three times in the last year for both DH and dd and they’ve never been charged.

We tried all that and they don't want to know as he can't remember the password! We have tried!

My husband got caught out with this as well! He got a text and thought it was a scam but luckily I told him not to ignore it!!

It was my daughter watching YouTube that did it....she just clicked on a pop up!

It was only when I was looking on it later on that it did the same to me!
Shocking!!

YANBU. I've only ever used my phone online a handful of times to check train times. Noone else uses it. Certainly never for youtube/videos/gaming etc and I've been getting these texts for the last few months. I do sometimes watch youtube on my laptop but have adblock and I'm not sure how they could have got my phone number from that?!

I'll have to get DP to check whether they've been taking money as my phone is on his contract. I mentioned the texts to him when I first started getting them and he seemed to think it's a phishing scam and so long as you don't click on the link or text STOP it won't charge you. Either way it seems really shady.

I've had a few texts saying that I should text STOP to stop them, which I have done and they have stopped. I've not been charged either.

Good work!

Who did you write and complain to Lying in bubbles?

Eliza9917 · 22/08/2018 21:12

I had this once for a while with a company called something like zamano or something.

I reported it and got my money back.

Google the company name and it should come up with how you get a refund.
