To take DS to the OOH GP?

I’ve made an appointment for 5pm, but now wondering if I’m overreacting.

DS has his Men b booster, pneumococcal booster and men c injections on Thursday evening. He’s had a fever since that night, which seems to be resolving, but the red area on his leg where he had the men B vaccine is spreading, not diminishing (pics attached- first one last night, second this lunchtime... yes we’re still in pyjamas today Blush). It’s warm though not swollen. He struggled to walk last night, but that’s resolved mostly.

My DM says it’s likely fine - but im not sure that it should still be spreading 48 hrs after the injection...
what do you all think?

Might as well go to the appointment now that you've booked it. I've never heard of a reaction like that to a vaccine. Could be an allergy to one of the ingredients. Is it itchy?

HoleyCoMoley · 18/08/2018 14:41

Yes take him to the g.p. You're not over reacting, it looks uncomfortable for him.

Haggisfish · 18/08/2018 14:42

Def go. Good idea to draw round it.

lyinginthesundrinkingbubbles · 18/08/2018 14:52

Very common after the boosters.
Calpol regularly and he should be fine if systemically well.
COI- doctor and mum, mine were similar I'll see if I can find and post picture.

lyinginthesundrinkingbubbles · 18/08/2018 14:54

Here you go

Lonecatwithkitten · 18/08/2018 14:56

Very common DD's arm was red and twice the normal size for approx. 2weeks after vaccination.

TheSheepofWallSt · 18/08/2018 15:26

@lyinginthesun

Thank you- he’s okay otherwise. Fever resolving with alternated ibuprofen and Calpol and isn’t breaking through like it was yesterday.

Prior to vaccination (and still) he has had a horrible cough and mild cold (over a week, no fever), but always the way with him since he had bronchiolitis at 12mo.

Feel like I’ve overreacted but we had a horrible 6 months when he was tested for immunosuppression (all clear) because he was so unwell, so often, and guess I always go to red alert now Blush

And thank you everyone else for not telling me I’m an nhs timewasting wanker.

Going to keep the appt just to be safe- I’ll let you know HOW silly the gp thinks I’ve been...

As a nurse who gives these imms then yes you should take him. My 3 year old had this reaction and needed antibiotics. It's a fairly rare occuramce. Draw round the red area with something like an eyeliner and take a photo so you can see if it is spreading. My gp dealt with this by email as I sent a photo and prescribed antibiotics for me to pick up from the chemist (sent electronically). My ds was fine in him self but his arm was horrendous. 48 hours of antibiotics and it had almost gone. Don't panic but yes, get him seen as untreated it can get serious.

noego · 18/08/2018 15:36

Call 111 if you're really worried. He'll get to see a Dr today hopefully and if antibiotics are needed you can start the course sooner.

PerverseConverse · 18/08/2018 15:36

Sorry just seen that you have marked round it. I'd say antibiotics are likely for that. Hope dc is ok soon.

TheSheepofWallSt · 18/08/2018 17:29

Infection.... Course of Fluclox.
Dr took one look at him and the graffiti and said he wasn’t happy with the look of it- thanks for all being so reassuring
