To just want a definitive answer about flying?

I’m 23 weeks pregnant with type 4 placenta praevia which has not shifted in the last three weeks. Next scan to monitor is at 28 weeks.

We have a holiday booked, involving three hours of flying in each direction. Staying for a week so I’ll be 26-27 weeks pregnant. Two obstetrician consultants have given me two different answers about flying. One said it should be fine, other said I should not fly.

Please, is there anyone who can say with authority which it is? GP said to go with advice given, but how? I’ve been given two different versions Confused

I don’t think asking Mumsnet will give you a definitive answer.

Err on the side of caution, don’t fly.

Er on the side of caution.

Basically, if anything were to happen (even though it's unlikely) it would probably be fatal.
So, I'd go with the cautious consultant. I doubt they advised against it for funsies.

Was hoping there might be an obs consultant on here who would confirm if it’s a yay or nay.

Of course I don’t want to put myself or baby in danger. Just absolutely gutted as this is a very special family holiday. Looks like others will have to go in without me.

The problem with asking MN is anyone can claim to be anything, you have no way of verifying them.

If one has said not to fly then I would err on the side of caution in your situation. But I’m no expert.

No consultant worth their salt will say yes to an internet random about a condition that might cause a catostrophic event to you and your unborn child.

areyouactuallykidding · 17/08/2018 22:28

I had it (it then moved as they usually do) and the consultant didn’t recommend I went on my UK holiday to Cornwall as it was too far from a hospital. I wouldn’t risk it. If you bled on the flight then it would be incredibly serious. Plus your travel insurance won’t cover you will it?

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 17/08/2018 22:30

Can you get another scan beforehand? Maybe pay privately?

lozengeoflove · 17/08/2018 22:30

I asked about going to Devon next week areyou and was told that was fine.
Have already checked out nearest hospital and routes from accommodation etc.

It might be easier to just make the decision for yourself. No one can say with concrete certainty that you’d be OK.

I absolutely wouldn’t, in your shoes.

lozengeoflove · 17/08/2018 22:31

This is what I was planning on doing meringue. Just doesn’t look too promising it will move as the placenta is completely covering the os.
