School uniform

Shamelessly posting for traffic...trying to buy my ds school trousers. I thought he was a normal sized 4 year old (summer born baby) but age 4 trousers are huge. So I buy age 3 and put them on the smallest setting on the elasticated waist - still too big. What do I do, I can't buy age 2 school trousers!! Oh and I can't sew either. Anyone else have this problem?

Marks and spwncer do uniform in size 2-3

ExFury · 17/08/2018 18:14

Some places will do age 2 trousers. I think m&a do, but also try different shops - my DS is 9 and some of his school trousers last year were 6-7 and some from a different place were 10-11!

I have it all the time - uniforms are made bigger now. My daughter's skirts either fit round the waist and are too short or fit lengthwise but fall off her waist. Sainsbury's have been the best fit for mine. They aren't cut as big as some. I'm hugely disappointed that John Lewis changed sizing a couple of years ago at about the same time the quality dipped with them as well!

Braces?

GruciusMalfoy · 17/08/2018 18:56

Try the slim fit trousers? Asda do some for a few pounds.

caramelpopcorn · 17/08/2018 18:58

Try Morrison’s. They come up really small. My daughter is 3-4 in most clothes, but 4-5 in Morrisons school trousers are a tiny bit on the small side. That way he will probably be in 3-4 in Morrisons!

Are you buying from a uniform shop or can you buy wherever? If you can buy where ever then try John Lewis, their clothes are cut small. If you are going down the uniform shop route then you will have to learn to sew.

Good old needle and thread, take them in? Iron on hemming tape is great for taking up trousers that are too long.

aintnothinbutagstring · 17/08/2018 19:04

My ds is very slim of waist, tesco school trousers usually are a good fit.

Popfan · 17/08/2018 19:10

School uniform comes up big! We use Marks and Spencer. My DS, 11 in December is above average in height and normal build. He"s in age 10-11 for clothes but still 9-10 for school uniform.

youarenotkiddingme · 17/08/2018 19:15

My ds has Woolworths school trousers as we Had the same problem and they did a 2-3.
Try Argos because I know they took over chad valley and may use the same uniform supplier?

Invisimamma · 17/08/2018 19:28

Asda or next slim fit.

Eminybob · 17/08/2018 19:32

I’ve bought age 3-4 from Asda for my summer born 4 year old. They have an adjustable waist so can be made smaller.
I originally ordered the 4-5 as that’s what all his current clothes are and they were ridiculously big!

SoyDora · 17/08/2018 19:33

It’s ridiculous isn’t it? My 4 year old has been in 4-5 clothes for ages so I ordered 4-5 school skirts and they fell straight back down. 3-4 are too big too.

curlywurlyupsydaisy · 18/08/2018 14:34

Thanks everyone, I didn't know m&s did an age 2, sounds ridiculous but I've had to order that.
