To think people bail on plans more often? Technology?

I have been let down by a few friends recently. All with all sorts of excuses, texted to me the night before or an hour before meeting up. 'I'm not feeling too well', 'I made a mix up with my calendar', 'A friend is unexpectedly visiting'. My teenage DD seems to forever have plans changed, rearrange, decide she can't be bothered to go etc too.

Maybe it is just me and my DD! But speaking to a friend today she said she experiences the same - people cancelling regularly or feeling a lack of energy to do something.

We concluded technology and the ease of being able to drop a quick text, rather than have to phone someone's landline like in the past (long ago past now!) seems to contribute to this. As well perhaps social media means people feel less inclined to 'get out there' and see people in real life.

I don't like it for the record!

Or AIBU thinking this is happening?

I feel the same. I arrange coffee/dinner with friends a week or two in advance and then the day before people will start dropping out via text. Happens every single time.

Yep. On the rare occasion I make plans with someone, it probably only goes ahead 50% of the time. I've had to learn not to tell my DCs anything now unless we are about to walk out the door as we get let down so much.

I hadn't thought about the ease of cancelling but I think you've got a good point. And having everyone drop out on plans is really quite rubbish.
