I have been going to slimming clubs for as longg as I can remember. I had great success at Slimming World, but gained some back during last pregnancy and cannot shift it. I tried going solo and failed. I tried calorie counting and failed. I have SW ingrained on my brain and cant beeak free from it.

AIBU to think its possible to lose weight without a slimmung club or fad diet? Has anyone managed the whole eat less move more thing?

I live in Italy, trying to copy my Italian friends as there is no slimming world option of any kind here. The rules are: something heavy like pizza just once a week, the rest of the evenings just protein and salad. Pasta/rice just once a day and with a very light sauce like tomato. Weigh it, don't guesstimate, eat only until you feel like you are not hungry. Some exercise, every day, a 20 min walk is plenty, doesn't have to be high energy. Sugar should be a massive treat, maybe a little biscuit once a day with a coffee. Eat breakfast, but make it not a huge amount. If you get hungry mid morning, an apple or a whole fat yogurt. So for instance today I had a caffe latte and three whole grain biscuits (a very Italian breakfast), a whole fat yogurt, rucola with beef slices and tomato for lunch, and salad with tomatoes and some ricotta for dinner, with a glass of wine, and I'm gonna do 30 mins of Zumba now. After a week of this I'm already feeling better. It doesn't have to be total deprivation, but a massive cut back in carbs is necessary really, and really just eating like a bird. It's not easy, I think you have to get in the mindset the continually eating like this is going to get you a body that you'll be happy in for always, not just for a a beach holiday. I do feel smokers have a big advantage, it would be such a help to go have another carnal pleasure than food, but then there's the whole cancer downside....just have to have more sex!

Yeah but it takes a lot of willpower. I’ve lost 3 stone since January by going to the gym and eating 1200 - 1400 calories a day. I fell off the wagon for a few months and stayed the same weight, but back on it now and started weights :)

Aquashiv I can't follow diets either, that's why I chose Team RH Fitness as it isn't a diet as such. There's no 'you can't have this'. At all. You can eat whatever you want as long as it fits into your personal allowance that you're given when you join. The allowance is very generous too, none of this "stick to 1200 calories a day" bollocks.
I. Can't. Follow. Diets.
But this is working for me and thousands of people.

I think you just need to find what what’s works for you - for me, it’s competition. I like to win (even if it’s against myself) - so I try to run faster than last time, endure HIIT for longer or try to have an even better, cleaner eating day.

Some people thrive on cooperation and like to have others in their journey.

Some people do better when they understand the facts behind everything rather than just ‘don’t eat x’.

I think it’s much like a learning style - you just need to find your weight loss style Wink

I lost almost 4st in 7 months my using mfp and walking. It definitely can be done. You just need to get into the right frame of mind. Watch this. It helped me anyway.

Hope the link works..

I've gone down a dress size using the Michael Moseley 16:8 diet - it's the first time that I've found something that I know that I can live with forever Smile

I've lost over a stone and kept it off for the last year/eighteen months? First of all, I'm not on a diet, as if you get in that mindset, you crave everything you shouldn't eat.
I have one less potato, bit less cream, one biscuit instead of two etc. If I fancy a snack, I eat fruit. My treats are a packet of crisps, cheese or chocolate, just not all three all at once, and sometimes none at all.
Every Thursday I eat just fruit and raw veg (cucumber, pickled beetroot and spring onions mixed with salad cream or hummus is lovely).

At Christmas and birthdays I don't stint myself, just cut down the following few days. I've dropped a dress size as well.
I also walk everywhere and when I can I swim once a week. I call it my 'I'm not on a diet diet', works for me!

I did SW about 7 years ago before my wedding, lost about a stone but got so used to the large portion sizes that when I came off the diet I put 2 stone on quickly. I've since had 2 children & put quite a bit more weight on, got to the point after DC2 that I was heading towards being obese. Something seemed to click after DC2 was born & ive lost nearly 50lb in 6 months, through obsessive calorie counting on MFP & exercise tracking with Fitbit. Now feeling great, 1 more stone to go until I'm back to a size 10, which would be the first time in about 15 years. I think 6 months of religious calorie counting has also drummed into my psyche how much I actually need to eat, and how many calories are in crisps, chocolate & booze! I'm hoping that my appetite & lifestyle has permanently changed but only time & long-term discipline will tell. Having said all that, the weight loss has been seriously helped by breastfeeding and getting seriously ill so it's not all willpower!

I lost 42lb in 6 months by sticking to my fitness pal calories, walking & exercising. Filled up on veg, meat & proper food and didn't snack. Had a good breakfast most mornings of eggs & low fat sausages.
