Had a not so lovely dentist appointment where I was given so much local anaesthetic for a filling that half my face is numb, including my ear, and I can barely close my eye. However they could not finish the job as a nerve still seemed unaffected and I was in a lot of pain so the dentist didn't want to put me through any more drilling. I have to go back in a few months to try again. Has anyone else had this? And if so how did you get it sorted?
I tend to have other nerve problems too, as in sciatica and a problem with my left arm where the nerve seems to 'twang' and cause pain and slight numb/tingling in hand and fingers. No idea what's going on with that either. Not sure if it's related.
Posting in AIBU for traffic and hoping someone can share their experience and offer some hope.

You don’t have hypermobility by any chance do you?

It’s a well known problem with some conditions, I don’t adequately block with local in any situation but particularly dentistry due to hypermobility

It's never been confirmed by a doctor but yes I'm hypermobile. I had heard it could be linked and asked the dentist about it but he said he didn't think it would be a problem. Can't remember exactly what he said as I was still reeling from the 4 injections and adrenaline. He says if it doesn't work next time they might need to refer me somewhere.

Has anyone else had this and if so did you manage to get treatment without trauma?

Ask dentist to refer you to dental hospital.

I think he's planning to do that if he can't manage it next time, but I think I'll ask him to refer me now as can't see what he could do differently to what he already did. I'm so flipping phobic of the dentist as it is that I don't want another hideous experience to add to ask the rest. I also fear the unknown, so am wondering what it is the dental hospital can actually do. Different injections? Can they find where the hiding nerve is? Or sedation? And would that actually stop the pain or just make me unable to react to it? Or are we talking something as severe as a GA for a filling?

I cant answer your questions but my dentist referred me to hospital last month, all went well and the dentist was a delight to be with. Completely reassuring. Felt like moving jn with him. You'll be fine. Good luck

Glad all went for you, fingers crossed I have a positive experience too. Thank you for some reassurance.
