apologies....posting here for traffic. Does anyone know if you have to take the baby along to his/her birth registration appointment? Kingston Council’s website doesn’t say one way or another and no one is picking up the phone. Thanks in advance.

I am 99.9% sure DH registered DS by himself while DS stayed home with me.

Thundercracker · 16/08/2018 12:56

No you don't need to bring the baby, and if you are married you don't both need to go.

Fluffybat · 16/08/2018 12:58

No you don't need to bring baby. One of you can do it.

CampariSpritz · 16/08/2018 12:58

Thank you! I’ve been on hold for nearly an hour trying to get a response. Bucketing outside so don’t want to drag him out unless necessary. Thank you.

Baby doesn't need to be with you. But if you're not married only you can register and your DP would need to attend with you if you wish to record his name on the birth certificate.

Well this is going back 30 years ago but I went with just my dad to register my sister.
My mum and my sister stayed at home.
You have all the proof of babys birth from 5 the hospital, donT you
Congratulations, btwFlowers

caitlinn · 16/08/2018 13:58

My son was in intensive care during the time we had to register his birth, they have confirmation from the hospital, so no they don't need to be there

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 16/08/2018 14:00

No. Plenty of babies are still in hospital by the time you need to have registered the birth by, eg premies, so no you can go without.

Kpo58 · 16/08/2018 14:01

You do need to know where you and your partner were born, so it might be useful to take your passports with you as it has that info

CampariSpritz · 16/08/2018 14:58

Thanks very much for the responses (and for the congratulations Aww). DS was duly registered whilst snug at home out of the rain. Mumsnet jury as reliable as ever!
