Anything you can throw at me will help.
I'm posting here for traffic, please forgive my sins for that!

But I need to nail this interview!

If anyone works at a college and know the process. Your input would be appreciated.

I used to teach Access courses and where I worked, the ‘interview’ was a fairly informal chat with the course tutor/ lecturer about reasons for wanting to go down this route of study. It was also opportunity for the tutor to gauge levels of enthusiasm and commitment for returning to education. Info about student loans/ grants and bursaries were shared too.

Good luck. I’m sure your keenness will shine though!

PS I don’t work in education anymore. It was too stressful. Loved the time with students, hated the time preparing, planning and marking and attending pointless training sessions, staff meetings and receiving odd requests from senior management! I stayed in the game for 5 years and then I handed my notice in.

Why do you want to be a teacher?
How do you think this course is going to help you?
Why do you think you'll succeed on the course?

I would assume any question you're asked will be addressing one of these areas.

The succeeding bit might include how you'll balance the work for the course with any other commitments you have (e.g. employment), as well as awareness of your own learning style, academic strengths/areas for improvement, etc.

The bit about how the course will help you might include why you're in the position of needing to do an access course, e.g. why you were unable to take/complete A-levels and, if appropriate, awareness of which university courses you can progress to with this particular access diploma and what grades you will need to achieve: how many credits at distinction, how many at merit, etc.

The bit about why you want to be a teacher would include giving examples of classroom/other school activity experiences (e.g. as a volunteer at your own children's school) or general experience with children - and, ideally, with parents - and showing that you understand what skills teachers need to have.

Thanks so much for the replies guys.
I've been having sleepless night over this.
It's been years since I've had an interview and although I know it's not as intense as a job based interview. This means the world to my future.
So I'd rather not screw it up.
