This is meant to be lighthearted.

What is the worst gift you ever received from someone? Mine was definitely a book about bicarbonate of soda from my grandma for Xmas one year Confused

A pair of Crystal champagne glasses. Engraved on the bottom, clearly a corporate gift to my step fathers company.

From my mum.

A box of (out of date) broken biscuits for Christmas from my lovely Grandma when I was 14.... DB got Nike air max trainers and £500 toward a car, he was 15!

Now as an adult I always get her offcast slippers that are 2 sizes too big. It's so tempting to stop buying her that bottle of whiskey each year!

Babyroobs · 15/08/2018 15:42

A plastic flower - this was my leaving gift given to me four whole months after I left my work position at a place I worked at for 14 years. I left it in my work locker and didn't even bother to bring it home.

mildshock · 15/08/2018 15:43

A part for DPs car, from his mum.

He wanted (note - not needed) it fixed but didn't have the spare money, and she decided my birthday would kill two birds with one stone.

She does this to everyone, so I didn't feel particularly offended. She just thinks people should only get practical things as gifts Grin

A jar of apple sauce, absolutely carpeted with furry blue mould . Bless her, she was so proud of her homemade gifts that I never had the heart to tell her...

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 15/08/2018 15:44

A friend of mine had the worst present I can remember.

Her DM asked her if she'd like a tablet for Christmas. DM was on a 2nd marriage and my friend and her brother were second class citizens to younger half brother. She'd never received a big ticket gift in her life and was delighted

Xmas Day. Spoilt brother got a brand new iPad. She got his old one wrapped up, it was broken Sad

A man's belt and a shoe polishing kit from DH's auntie. We get on quite well and she genuinely thought it was a good present.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 15/08/2018 15:45

The free gifts from an old She magazine. Seriously. Hmm

emmaluggs · 15/08/2018 15:46

Snow tracks from an Aldi special buy, from MIL who won’t travel the 30 minute journey to our house in fair weather 🤷🏼‍♀️ The irony

Furrydogmum · 15/08/2018 15:46

A tradecraft garlic storage jar every Christmas for 3 years! And a colour changing umbrella for my 40th - all from mil 😆

PasstheStarmix · 15/08/2018 15:47

@Excitedforxmas your worst gift is the same as mine? I guess we have cheap skate MIL’s!

mildshock · 15/08/2018 15:47

Oh also peppa pig underwear! Also from DPs Mum.

Me: "err, thanks? Are these for grown ups?"
MIL: "of course, you love peppa pig"
Me: "DS does, but he's 2"

Jewellery in a style not like anything I ever wore. Still don't really know what I was thinking there.

I've also had different people giving me the same book, which must be just about the most useless gift for whichever arrives second, but at least the thought was good.

And the worst I've given was an IQ Test book. The topic had come up in conversation a few weeks prior so I thought it would be an interesting gift. The recipient made it clear they considered it an insult Blush.

safariboot · 15/08/2018 15:48

Still don't really know what the giver was thinking there, I mean.

3luckystars · 15/08/2018 15:49

This isn't a bad present but bad timing....
I had a concussion on November after a head injury and was in bed for WEEKS.

For Christmas, my husband bought me: Pyjamas and a white dressing gown

We do a secret Santa with the family, so we each get one good present: his aunt bought me pyjamas and a dressing gown.

(these are the only presents I get, 2, and both were pyjamas and a dressing gown and I had been wearing nothing else for the previous 8 weeks)

The following year, his other aunt bought me ANOTHER dressing gown....

misschickadee · 15/08/2018 15:50

A supposedly portable phone charger the size of a house that needed its own suitcase to be able to carry it around as a Valentine's gift from my ex boyfriend
Not the most romantic of gifts!! Shock

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/08/2018 15:50

A box of screen wipes Hmm

speakout · 15/08/2018 15:53

Toilet seat from my mother.

teaandtoast · 15/08/2018 15:53

A calendar for the current year for my birthday. In March... Confused
A mug, one teabag and 3 biscuits. Biscuits that were so horrible you couldn't eat them. Mind, they burnt well on the fire.
A clock for the garden that couldn't be hung in the sun or the rain.

All from the same people. There are more, but I think I've blanked them.

Maliali · 15/08/2018 15:53

A waterproof violin case cover from my ex. I very rarely took the wretched instrument out it’s case let alone out the house.

Rememberfluffthecat · 15/08/2018 15:54

A chocolate log from an eccentric old friend after I was diagnosed with cancer. I found it hilarious 😂

YouWereRight · 15/08/2018 15:56

A roll of cling film from MIL for my 19th birthday. Or a box of chocolates, with 1/3 missing because dp got hungry wrapping. It was the only gift.

Some tiny baby socks from dp, for me, a grown adult.

So many bad presents from dp, nowadays he just doesn't bother Confused

Horrordoeurvres · 15/08/2018 15:56

Not the worst but definitely the funniest - My great grandmother once gifted me a single bunny rabbit shaped slipper as a young teen, was super confused until I met my cousin at the family Christmas dinner and was informed she had received the other slipper.. - long story short my Great G got confused thinking they were teddies and she'd gotten a great bargain 2 for 1 deal in the store, got her eyes tested after that one. Grin

Maliali · 15/08/2018 15:56

Oh and my DF (who to his dying day was meticulously clean and unsmelly) was given a quarter used can of Rightguard deodorant by his friend. They were both in their 80s at the time but neither had any mental deterioration. His friend was always a bit of a strange one and very tight with money. Even so😲

PopGoesTheWeaz · 15/08/2018 15:57

a jigsaw puzzle.

(Context is key but it was just thoughtless , pick a gift from a bag sort of gift and broke my heart when I had done really personal gifts for them. Still stings a bit to think about it, even though I know I shouldn't take it personally as that's just the way they buy gifts.)
