Help! Advice needed on period fatigue. Does anyone else suffer?

Freshstart19 · 15/08/2018 13:55

From about 4 days prior I always know it's coming.
It's the school holidays and I feel like a terrible mum because I've barely moved from the sofa for two days.

I start with spots and fatigue and then it continues throughout my period.
I'm probably a day or two away from finishing and I feel like I could sleep the days away.
I've had my bloods done and iron and ferritin levels are good. I take supplements anyway because they tend to drop every so often.
The house can literally go swivel, I say currently staring at the dishes full of mum guilt.

I also get quite itchy during this time too not sure if that's anything to do with anything.
Ugh I hate being a women sometimes. Anyone else suffer this way?

Funnily the pain is bearable and the bleeding isn't all that heavy. I must just be a hormonaly imbalanced women Grin

It's every chuffing month!

Posting here for traffic.

With 4 children and a job I feel like utter shit. Luckily I'm off for a few weeks.

Mirena coils often stop periods altogether, maybe an option for you?

Dishwashersaurous · 15/08/2018 14:04

Omg I’m currently lying in bed as they watch tv with exactly the same thing.

I have had endometriosis in the past so I’m used to excruciating pain but as I get older the exhaustion is the main thing. Yesterday I just cried and cried because I was so tired.

Again had blood tests etc but all normal

Freshstart19 · 15/08/2018 14:04

Believe it or not they just made my hormones worse. I've done the pill, implant, coil and injection. All made me depressed and suicidal. I don't do well with added hormones. The doctors were very reluctant to put me on anything else.
I've had a horrendous ride with it and I'm at my wits end now.

I used to get so tired I could curl up and sleep. As I work at home I sometimes did.

There are some good things about going through menopause.

And the progesterone surge or whatever made me dopey. I reversed into a stationary car once. Very unlike me. My husband was mystified.

Dishwashersaurous · 15/08/2018 14:07

In the past acupuncture really helped but I can’t afford it anymore

Freshstart19 · 15/08/2018 14:07

@Dishwashersaurous
All my bloods are normal too which makes me want to scream even more. Is that something we have to just put up with?

I seem to have a surge in depression around this time and feel so guilty when I'm not actively doing anything.
I do get leg pain with it and I take nurophen for that which helps.
The kids had crisp sandwiches and a banana for dinner. How bad is that? I know it's okay to eat crap sometimes. But I just feel like I should be doing more.
Ugh Sad

@Abra1de I am so dopey too! I walked around the super market the other day yawning!
I'm so jealous of men right now!

I used to have this (but less so) - for 24 hours before my period started, I would be absolutely wiped out, couldn't move or think.

I asked the doctor about lifestyle changes, she suggested blood sugar as a factor so I switched to eating 6 small meals in the few days before my period, to try to regulate it - that did help a bit.

But I ended up going down the hormonal contraceptive route and that was much more effective, so can't really help I am afraid.

Freshstart19 · 15/08/2018 14:10

@Dishwashersaurous
I'm about to become a full time student so no chance for that either.
Worried once a month this will affect my studying. Let's hope the exams don't fall on my PMT.

Oh and my period is like clockwork. Feels like it is laughing at me Confused

@LordEmsworth wish I had the energy to feed myself HA!
I'm at least eating fruit and drinking water.

I feel exactly like you are writing about me. And even though I know it’s coming, clockwork too, it’s bloody awful every single month.

The only thing I do to cope is just go to bed when the kids do and try and sleep as much as I can

BeefyCakes · 15/08/2018 14:14

I'm like it for a couple of weeks before. I can feel myself ovulating. I have a 5 week ish cycle.

When my period finally arrives I am a completely different person. I have so much energy it's unreal.

It's awful, absolutely awful. Taking the pill and having a coil, implant, anything makes me suicidal. So I just put up with it.

GoldenBuns · 15/08/2018 14:16

I feel for you OP. I am coming currently out of a horrendous period. Dark, dark moods with exhaustion. I wish I knew the solution. My coping method is to chart when my next period will be meticulously. I then highlight that week in the diary so I know when it should be coming. If at all possible, I try not to make any big plans e.g. going out in the evenings etc. I do minimal housework and plan meals that Dont need much preparation. Obviously, it's not always possible to plan around it and that's when my problems start...

FeralBeryl · 15/08/2018 14:19

OP am the same, the gut wrenching full body tiredness of early pregnancy is now my norm every month. I feel hungover each morning, like I've been on a huge bender hungover. Everything hurts, mentally and physically.
The worst is the clumsiness. I'm a danger.
Fecking hormones

Freshstart19 · 15/08/2018 14:20

Dishwashersaurous while my 2 year old is sleeping I've just been sat here feeling sorry for myself and I've tried get a nap on the sofa while the 3 eldest play on the computers but the guilt kept me awake.
Bloody stupid I know.

This was me. Crawling around tired and sleepy. Pre pregnancy I used Diane35 ( not sure if it's available for prescription in U.K.?) and it helped immensely. Also I pushed myself to exercise during that period.. it seemed to work.

I haven't used any hormonal contraceptive for two years now but use evening primrose oil and ginger honey cinnamon drinks a few days before the dreaded period. Probably placebo effect but feel less cranky and tired compared with not using anything at all.

Freshstart19 · 15/08/2018 14:23

BeefyCakes
I too get that burst of energy about a week after it finishes and then when I start to slow down, I know exactly what's around the corner and I dread it.
I've literally only just figured it was due to my period. I thought it was everything else and had so many tests done.
I generally eat healthy (as do my kids today aside 😅) So I couldn't understand it untill now.
Eyes sting, head feels dry if that's even a symptom and I get poo cramps instead of period cramps.

@GoldenBuns I try my best not to plan anything. I have a interview this Friday though. Desperately pleading with the high heavens to give me a complete 360 before then because right now, I have the laptop on trying to plan but failing miserably!

@FeralBeryl
I know! I should come with a huge warning label every month! It's that bloody awful sluggish feeling that you can't shake now matter how many sodding vitamins and water you drink.

Dong Quai and fish oil supplements x

Freshstart19 · 15/08/2018 14:30

@user1489792710
I've used so many supplements that I know it won't have an effect. Although pepper mint oils work great for digestion.

My partner is a complete arse too who is quite the bully and I plan on leaving shortly. So I'm dealing with that aswell.

I know he will come home to a shit tip house. Shit tip kids and me looking like a homeless person. He will have a right mood on and assume I'm lazy. Can't wait to not have to deal with that.

I think all the stress isn't helping my current mood or hormones. But that will get better.
