To not want to start thinking about Christmas yet?

Lydiaatthebarre · 15/08/2018 13:22

A friend of mine just loves Christmas and has already started talking about it, telling me how many weeks are left, how many shopping days to go, telling me what she's going to buy various members of her family, telling me we'd better start organising our Christmas night out with ex uni friends before 'everyone gets booked up' and so on.

I love Christmas from about mid Nov on. But it's still AUGUST, and I'm trying to hang onto my Summer mood for as long as possible.

AIBU to wish she'd shut up banging on about it?

You’re doing it to us by starting this thread.....

Lydiaatthebarre · 15/08/2018 13:24

I knew someone would say that Smile

As Belly said, you've started us off now! I love Christmas. Just started saving

MarthasGinYard · 15/08/2018 13:28

I find it odd

Threads on here last week completed Christmas Eve boxes and the such like

I guess if you are bored with heaps of free time

HardSkin · 15/08/2018 13:29

Do it when it suits you.

Some people talk about every moral that passes their lips and what they plan to eat the next day, those things don't interest me. I don't spend much time with people who have an interest that bores me and is their top priority.

Day off today so I decided to tackle the ' messy cupboard '. It thankfully wasn't too bad but I did come across my new years sale Christmas cards, so I wrote out my Christmas cards !!

Marmite27 · 15/08/2018 13:33

We always have our summer holiday in September, so don’t think about it until after then!

Plus one if he DC have an autumn birthday, and we have s huge family so can’t start planning presents until after I see what everyone has bought her!

Purpleartichoke · 15/08/2018 13:34

I hate summer with a passion, so anything that gets me thinking of winter weather is a win. I try not to bring others into it though because I know it is a rare attitude.

Purpleartichoke · 15/08/2018 13:36

I’ve started sketching Christmas cards already because I make my own so need to come up with an idea and make in bulk. The extra time helps.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 15/08/2018 15:59

I've only started thinking about Christmas because I need to start paying for it alongside all the Nov & Dec birthdays in my family.

I left retail earlier this year & this is the first Christmas since 2012 that I haven't been properly prepping for Christmas already, either at work or getting the jump on it all because I'm too busy from November onwards.

kimistayingalive · 15/08/2018 16:07

I've been asking about getting the Xmas lists sorted and deciding what to get the kiddos. Mainly partly because I like to be organised and can budget if I can figure out how much we can spend if I have an idea of who wants what too. And partly because by the end of October my MIL will be asking for the Xmas lists anyway.

Travis1 · 16/08/2018 09:05

The weather has turned here so we've started thinking about it. I already have events booked in for December and planning a Belfast trip for Christmas markets so she's right in some ways, it is a busy month for everyone.

PurpleMac · 16/08/2018 10:31

I started my shopping months ago - but in my defence, from 1st December we have all four birthdays (mine, DSS, DS, and DH) in a four week period which also includes Christmas. So I have to be organised and start spreading the cost as soon as I can! So I'm already planning.

Grated · 16/08/2018 10:45

Our family decided last year that non of us can be arsed be xmas anymore and to stop gift giving apart from for the children.

We'll still have dinner and a piss up after which is what we look forward to more than presents

mostimproved · 16/08/2018 10:55

It's an expensive time so it makes sense for people to start thinking about it now to spread the cost as otherwise the credit card can take a battering in December. To me it's Christmas from after my birthday in September! It's my favourite time of year. Also, some people don't like summer and find it equally irritating when people go on about wishing it was summer and where they want to go on holiday all the time from January onwards.

BuntyII · 16/08/2018 10:59

It's a little light in a storm for some people, something to look forward to. Easter eggs hit the shops in January but no one bats an eyelid, yet mention Christmas before December and there's a chorus of 'its too early!' Too early for what, and why? Just let people live their lives and take any enjoyment they can.

Arrowfanatic · 16/08/2018 11:36

I've already started Xmas shopping as I have 3 kids and a large extended family so need to budget well. But I'm not one of those gagging to get their tree up in November and making Xmas eve boxes etc.

Fucks sake, stupid phone.

I usually start buying for Christmas in September. August is usually school uniform month then from September I make a start on Christmas presents, it works best for me.

I will confess I’ve already made vague Christmas lists for the DC Grin.

Cath2907 · 16/08/2018 11:43

Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way!

Lydiaatthebarre · 16/08/2018 12:30

Budgeting and shopping ahead makes sense. But trying to organise Christmas nights out in August and going "ooh only x weeks left. Can't wait' etc when people are still trying to enjoy the Summer is annoying.

Also Bunty, every year people complain about Easter eggs being in the shops before the Christmas decorations are down, or Back to School ads appearing before the schools have even broken up.

kimistayingalive · 16/08/2018 12:54

We had to get our ds school uniform early as Aldi did it long before school even broke up and they sell out in no time.
Christmas presents can get expensive if you try and buy everything at once unless you have a separate savings just for Xmas and for some it's works better to buy when spotted early.
I enjoy the Easter time as I can buy loads of mini eggs for decent price (for me not the dc). Don't buy choc eggs for the kids cos other family members tend to but buy a toy or clothes instead.
Supermarkets tend to start "celebrations" early, surprise I've not seen Halloween stuff everywhere yet to be honest.

Bluelady · 16/08/2018 12:56

Oh no, not the C word! It's the middle of fucking August!

Buddyelf · 16/08/2018 13:00

Christmas is my favourite time of year and I would happily discuss all year round - however I am very aware lots of people don't. So I keep my Christmas cheer to myself until it starts bursting through in September!
I have already started a few bits but only if I see something and its on offer for example. All helps towards keeping the cost down in December.
