That everyone in Unforgotten talks in a very stilted way

It is the weirdest thing, every bloody character, pauses ...between...every...word

Love Keeley Hawes can't wait for Bodyguard.

Love love love it! We are waiting for dh to come home to watch the last episode!!!

I think it’s the doctor???

So excited for the body guard as line of duty was ace.

Good to see Neil morrissey in good roles

Yes JeansandJumpers Spiral was bloody brilliant. I had to buy the other 5 series. I. Can't. Wait. For. The. Next. One. (NW script).

missyB1 · 15/08/2018 17:16

Yeah looking forward to Bodyguard because i'm sure it will be a good story, but I dont like Keeley Hawes - yes I know I'm the only one!

Clawdy · 15/08/2018 17:28

For me, Nicola Walker can do no wrong. I know she has a very distinctive acting style, but that is what makes her so different. Those mesmerising eyes, and that strange, quick smile are what make her such an interesting actor.

JeansandJumpers · 15/08/2018 17:55

Riojaandcorrie, I trust your recommendations now, as spiral is the only program I’ve ever paid for. I’m rationing it out as I can’t bear for it to end. Thank god for subtitles though as my o level French only helps with about three words per episode.

JeansandJumpers try Night and Day, it's Spanish and quite good it's free on all4.

I quite like the foreign language series as I have to read the screen and it stops me doing 10 other things at the same time.

Let me know if you find any other gems!

bbcessex · 15/08/2018 18:26

I can see what you mean but it doesn’t bother me.
IT IS SOOOOO GRIPPING!!!

Anyone want to swap theories on whodunnit?

Deadringer · 15/08/2018 18:37

I only saw the first series but I can't say i noticed, I thought that Walker was lovely and calm, it was a nice change as she often plays quite volatile, annoyingly edgy characters. Delighted to hear series two is on Netflix I hadn't spotted it.

RebeccaCloud9 · 21/08/2018 00:20

I think the stilted way of talking is to make it seem more realistic. No one in real life talks in the smooth, polished way actors usually do - there's many more pauses, stutters, umms and errs, and stumbles over words than you ever hear actors doing usually.

But I think she does take it a bit too far so it becomes overly noticeable. Doesn't stop her, and the whole programme, being ace though!

JeansandJumpers · 06/09/2023 22:11

I know this thread is dormant, but she is doing it again in Annika. They have made her character Norwegian (or is it Swedish) to facilitate her stilted style. If she was a good actress I'm sure she wouldn't have to roll out the same 'style' in every role! Quite like the series though, and I'm sure she is a very nice person...

@JeansandJumpers

Oh dear.

Letting your prejudices get in the way of the facts?

The tv programme is based on a radio 4 drama series where Annika is actually a member of the Oslo murder squad. She was also played by Nicola Walker
