To ask what age you would leave your dc in the cinema whilst you nipped to the loo?

Having a day with dd tomorrow. She's nearly 7. Baby on the way in 3 weeks time. Want to spend a nice day out together so planning to do lunch, bit of shopping and asked if there's anything she would like to do. She said cinema which is great for me as I can just sit - albeit slightly uncomfortable!

But now I'm just thinking - I won't be able to sit through a film without a couple of visits to the toilet.

What age would you leave your dc watching the film while you popped off for a couple of mins? Like I say, she's almost 7.

She may want to come with me when I need to go and that's fine but she might also say she wants to sit and watch it. She would never run off or anything but I'm unsure of what age is suitable really....

I think I would leave my 7 yo for a few mins in that situation, if she was happy to be left.

DangerousBeanz · 14/08/2018 13:26

Very much depends on your child.
My daughter is 8 going on 45 so she'd be fine, and we have a password system in place.
My son I I wouldn't have left at 14 because he's a dolt at times, very intelligent but no common sense at all. He's 26 now and I swear he'd still go to see puppies with a stranger.

Aged 4 and 5 approx when i first did it

eurochick · 14/08/2018 13:27

I left my just turned 4 year old this week!

She's sensible and it's a small cinema. I saw other parents with similar age kids doing it too.

jelly449 · 14/08/2018 13:28

Thanks for both replies. I do think if she says she wants to sit and watch it then she would be fine. She's been desperate to see this film for ages so I'd feel abit bad dragging her off a couple of times during it. But then I just didn't know if on the whole, she was still too young

Thank you, I'm sure she will be fine :-)

Anything over 4 or 5 I think

Pressuredrip · 14/08/2018 13:30

ive told my 4 year old if I have to leave the cinema because her little brother is crying, then it's her choice if she stays and watches and I'll wait in the corridor, or she comes out with us. Likewise toilet/nappy changes. So at 7 I think it's fine, providing its not a 12A film.

FatToni · 14/08/2018 13:31

My older dc have been going to the cinema ‘alone’ since age 7 and 9.

I’m sitting just outside in the cafe for the duration with the baby but they get their own tickets, go in alone, find their own seats etc.

FatToni · 14/08/2018 13:33

Why not if it’s a 12A film pressured?

chipswndbeans · 14/08/2018 13:34

5 last week but I asked the usher to keep an eye on her.

apriljune12 · 14/08/2018 13:36

She should be fine op

Pinkvoid · 14/08/2018 13:38

I have done this with my 6 year old. Anything over 5 is fine I’d say but obviously dependent on the child.

Luckymummy22 · 14/08/2018 13:44

I would leave my 6 year old in cinema for a couple of mins. I would take my 3 year old with me.

Daisy03 · 14/08/2018 13:51

My daughter is 7, and I do it often, but I’ve also explained what to do to her in the event of a fire alarm, ie not to try to find me but to follow everyone else and seek help then.
I know chances are tiny but topic came up after we had an evacuation once
