To ask for a refund of £1.50?

I made an appointment at a very popular salon to get my make up done for a wedding. I made it around three months ago and, even then, the make up artist that had been recommended was almost full so I had to take one at 9am. I had to pay a deposit of £1.50.

They phoned me around a month ago to say the artist could no longer do my make up because she was now doing a wedding, and offered me someone else. I declined since I only wanted the woman who'd been recommended. They were unapologetic. I asked about the deposit and they said the £1.50 would be refunded. It hasn't been. I feel petty asking for the £1.50 back but I feel the whole thing has been a very bad example of customer service. Should I just ask or write it off as experience and not book there again?

Don’t think I could be arsed tbh. What sort of business asks for a £1.50 deposit though? Totally pointless imo.

This attitude that it’s “petty” to ask for money that is legitimately owed to you really annoys me.

Yes it’s a small amount - we know that.
But not too small for them to take it in the first place, is it?!

Get your money back!

I'd ask for it back out of principle.

Some salon booking systems take a deposit of €1.50 from your card when you book online or through their app so I presume that this explains the amount for those who are asking.

I personally wouldn't bother for the sake of £1.50.

It's your money though...and it'll be one of those stupid things play on your mind for ages to come if you don't chase it up!

I think it's quite a clever move taking £1.50 from each booking, double booking everything, cancelling and then assuming most people won't bother chasing deposit as it's a small amount. All those £1.50s will add up to a nice little earner.

I personally wouldn't bother for the sake of £1.50.

10 people with this attitude would earn the salon £15. 100 people with this attitude would earn them £150.

Not a bad side-earner for no work at all, wouldn't you say...

In principle I would ask for it back, They may do this to multiple people and think if everyone she had booked on the day cancelled and they each paid £1.50 They are making quite a lot.

I know if it happened to me I couldn't be bothered to chase it and have the hassle for £1.50. Do they have a facebook page or email? I think I would send a message on there if thats an option.

I'd ask for it back no business i know let's people off with a penny, e.g. Fill your car with £20:00 and you go over a penny they charge you £20:01p
A few years back I ordered my dds birthday cake and cupcakes from a cake maker & also paid for them to be delivered day before her party think about £100 in total, two weeks before she messaged meto say she couldn't get the stencils for what I wanted in time, even though I'd ordered two months prior to this i let it go knowing she be saving money on stencils they was on eba y for £5:00, the day before delivery she messaged me she couldn't deliver I'd paid her £10:00 delivery so messaged her about getting it back she said she give it back when we collected cake i don't drive so had to ask my eldely father to drive miles to collect it & me I was to busy to go, dad got back cake was in a state roses falling of it obvs she hadn't let it set long enough for delivery crack in icing but had little choice but to use it repaired it best we could cupcakes were lovely mind on and she told my dad sorry I ain't got no money on me when he got there she said she put it in my bank i messaged her a few days after asking for it she said she would transfer it she never did three months after I messaged her about refund response i got was yeah I'll do it later with PayPal no apologies for the wait nothing quite frankly it was very much like I was bugging her she never did next day i messaged her and told her I would be leaving a very bad review about the state in the cake & fact she let delivery down the day before & still hadnt received refund for delivery within ten minutes she transferred it to me
After this I always get any money that's mine back going in straight with it no giving them chances it's they business he's but it's your money

Think of it this way - if you dropped £1.50 in the street would you pick it up or keep on walking?!
